At cons, how many games have you left in the middle? Not because you were sick or something. |
Mako11 | 11 Jan 2016 6:25 p.m. PST |
None, but I haven't been to many conventions. |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 11 Jan 2016 6:36 p.m. PST |
Only one I can recall, because by 1AM people had to wake me up to move. |
John the OFM | 11 Jan 2016 6:39 p.m. PST |
None, but there were a few that I would have liked to. |

Does the game ran two hours over and it hit the time when I take my nighttime meds count as sick? Other than that, never. |

After one move in over 2 hours I left to use the bathroom and never returned – the game was Legacy of "agony" (glory)at a Historicon a few years back…….horrible game system. |

I bailed on a demo game at Gencon once. It was horrible. I don't think it ever made it to market. A friend got me in to the show as staff for his business, so I was wearing a staff shirt and badge and said "I gotta get back to work" |

Just once. There was a guy on the other side that complained non-stop while simultaneously cheating every chance he could. The game wasn't worth the annoyance. |

I once tried to get myself shot, so I could leave a wild west gunfight. There was nothing wrong with the game; it was late, I'd played two games after a long drive, and I needed to sleep. Of course, I managed to get wounded in the leg, fell down, and everyone moved around the corner where I could neither shoot at anyone or get shot at. Eventually, the GM just told me to go to bed. |

I wanted to leave a Spanish Civil War game played in 28mm by the ground scale di isn't match, the gamemastering just left us numerous times, the rule set was not well designed, and it was a mess of a game. We stayed and played it until the end. At a con, I once played in a huge North Africa WWII game in 15mm commanding a small Italian force defending an exposed ridge. The larger game with German and British forces swirled around us. There were so many people playing that it took 30-45 minutes between my turns. The poor Italians, as usual, didn't stand a chance against the Brits. I turned my command over to someone else after several hours of dreadful boredom. The game was too big, imbalanced, poorly run, with too many players to be enjoyable. It was shame because it was a gorgeous board. |

Not walked out of but my son and I played a disastrous Battle Star Galactica game where there was no way the humans could possibly win much less achieve their objectives. After my ship was destroyed and my son's soon after in the end of turn two the GM offered me and my son another vessel. I declined and we left the table. |

About 25 yearsago, the scenario and rules were right on. Then the GM changed his dice roll. One older gamer left, then the GM did it again was called on it and just lied, then I left. |

Never, that would be against my "code." Many I wished I could have. |

I used to never leave a convention game. Then I (and my friends) realized our limited convention time was just as important as everyone else's, and a sticking it out for a terrible event was a waste of our vacation time and travel money. |
Martin Rapier | 12 Jan 2016 12:07 a.m. PST |
Never, but the sorts of games events I go to the games are generally fairly short and sharp. If it is late and I am tired then I won't start playing but I might hang around a bit and watch. |

One, towards the beginning, not in the middle though. Signed up for a Pigwars Viking game. That much was apparent from the PEL, but the actual description was written in Gaelic. One turn in, we Vikings are attacked by these naked Amazons and when we go to defend ourselves we are told "you cannot move, you are frozen in place by a magic spell. You are about to be taken as sex slaves……." I excused myself, saying to the GM " with due respect, not my cup of tea this morning" and he looks at me like "well it was in the PEL!" Right. I could not find my Gaelic to Texas dictionary when I signed up. Oh… and what actually bothered me about it all and what really tipped the scale was at one end of the table the GM's teenage emmo daughter and her semigoth boyfriend were liplocked and hands-roaming (everywhere, inside and out) the whole time. Perhaps they were there to set the mood. Then I (and my friends) realized our limited convention time was just as important as everyone else's, and a sticking it out for a terrible event was a waste of our vacation time and travel money. ^^^^^ THIS! |

None, but I choose my con games very carefully. I'd rather not put myself in that position. |
John the Greater | 12 Jan 2016 6:50 a.m. PST |
Once. A 1st Bull Run game that took over three hours to get through turn 2. All the players simply drifted off. Too bad, the terrain and the figures were great, it's just the game bit the big one. |
Tgerritsen | 12 Jan 2016 7:07 a.m. PST |
Never. I hate to be rude. There are a few I really wanted to leave, but wouldn't do so. However, if the judge is the reason, I make a mental note and avoid that person in the future. |
Mute Bystander | 12 Jan 2016 7:21 a.m. PST |
No but if the game is truly unbearable then I would and I would tell the GM why politely but publicly before I left. |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 12 Jan 2016 8:35 a.m. PST |
I will add that I once stuck through a game in which my unit moved 24 inches in 6 hours--something I suspect other gamers have also suffered. Afterwards, one of the other players--a particularly good guy--apologized to me! |
Doctor X | 12 Jan 2016 9:09 a.m. PST |
Never. Probably because I am picky about the games I play or make sure I know the guy running it a little so I know its not a clunker. |

Once, a Star Fleet Battle game with something like 10 players and *dozens* of drones fired in the first round. My friend and I left at the lunch break between the first and second rounds… |
Red3584 | 12 Jan 2016 12:04 p.m. PST |
Once, during a Secrets of the 3rd Reich "participation" game…my son and I sat for 3 mins waiting for our turn while the the other players…all members of the club who were putting the game on…had a great time aging themselves. I'm not sure anyone noticed we'd gone… |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 12 Jan 2016 7:18 p.m. PST |
Is that "3 mins" correct? You mean you waited 3 minutes for your turn? |
Red3584 | 16 Jan 2016 2:06 p.m. PST |
oops…just saw this! No, it should have been 30 minutes!! |
Old Contemptibles | 19 Jan 2016 3:18 p.m. PST |
No, but I had a GM leave before the game started. He set it up and said there is a game I want to be in. So here are the rules good luck and he left. So the players all left. |
Weasel | 19 Jan 2016 4:19 p.m. PST |
Never, but I've been lucky and never been in anything that was really awful :-) |
