Saturday the local HMGS-South group played a War of Spanish Succession battle using the Black Powder rules. The non-historical scenario was an attack by Allied troops on a French position. link

Great stuff. I am currently painting up WSS units in 28mm (Wargames Factory) and I plan to use Beneath The Lily Banners ruleset. I could use the same units for Black Powder. Can you suggest any tips or tricks to emulate the period effectively? |

Here are some of my WSS-specific modifications to Black Powder. They change a bit after each game: 1. No infantry fire if more than 1 move is used for any purpose. 2. No attack columns, skirmishers or squares. 3. No artillery movement after unlimbering other than facing. No artillery firing on a turn with facing or other movement. Unlimbering requires the entire movement phase, even if more than one move results from the command roll. No artillery movement or facing change within infantry fire distance of any enemy unit. 4. Brigade morale is not used. Each army has a break level of 25% of the total of infantry and cavalry units of the larger army, rounded up, or as specified by the scenario. When this number of infantry or cavalry units is destroyed or shaken, the army is defeated. |

Contrary to word on the street, you really don't need a hundred units to play a good BP game. 12-20 per side is fine. |
