Painting up my new Footsore Gothic Cavalry in 28mm. Who makes banners I can use with these? Can't find anything useable in the LBM lists yet I'm sure I've seen completed figures with suitable flags/banners. From where, though?

You could use Arthurians or Early Saxons from LBM:

But I'd just go with dracos.

I'm using draco's and selected one's from the Early Saxon/Germanic sheet.

Draco's are my go to Leader indicator for the armies of this period also.

Whose dracos are recommended for 28mm? Essex has one for £2.25 GBPp and Newline sell 6(!) for only £1.10 GBPp. I'm assuming some considerable difference between the two.

Depends on your time frame, I suppose. My Ostrogoths are Arian, so I have Christian banners and dracos. Steve at LBMS helped me out with it, he wrote to me at the time:

"In my personal opinion I think the Byzantine banners I make look a bit late
for the period you are doing. I based my Byzantine banners around the 7th to
8th Centuries onwards.

I have attached a couple of links for you of the Arthurian banner2 and the
Anglo Saxon Saga sheet.

I designed the Arthurian banner sheet 2 to have a more Late Roman feel to it
or so it can be used by Christianised Goths etc… It has the early Chi Rho
symbols and also the Icon of Mary which would be quite in keeping for what
you want. I also think having most of the banners hanging from a t shaped
cross bar would add a nice look to your Goths.

I attached the Anglo Saxon Sage sheet as the shields would work with larger
boss holes on your Foot sore figures but also the image of Jesus I think
would work for you. I might be tempted to cut the triangular tails off and
give it a fringe?

I hope this helps?

Best regards,

Steve."

Hope that helps

Oh, I forgot to add – if you are doing Christianized eastern Goths from ca. 376 and later, it seems they would not have used a cross or crucifix as religious symbology.

I was also looking for Arian symbols and it seems they used the Chi-Ro as a site I ran across discussing Arian Christianity was stating that they looked upon the cross as a instrument of torture. It would be like a contemporary religious cult using the guillotine or electric chair as a religious symbol.

I like to add bishops to my command stands and for Late Romans and Arthurians, it's not hard to find a bishop because a cross on a staff is pretty normal. But it is difficult to find a Chi-Ro on a staff for the bishop I have for my Goths (I put a book in his left hand but his right is waiting for a staff). I've seen one on a google image search in 28mm but I don't know the manufacturer, so I may have to try and sculpt one out of green stuff but it would probably look crappy.

In any case, I thought I would share what I found out in my own recent search about Arian Christianity as it applied to the Goths and the symbology they may have used.
