The way they're spinning it, they're saying Windows 8.1 is a service pack to Windows 8, and the 10-year support policy applies to versions with the latest service pack. Once a service pack is released, they only support the prior version for 3 years. This Ziff Davis article covers the topic: link Not sure how I feel about it as I don't have Windows 8. I heard it was so bad that 8.1 was a must-have usability fix. So in the hypothetical scenario where this affected me, I would think I would be on 8.1. Note I am still on Windows 7 and still putting off upgrade to 10 so I'm not a gung ho Microsoft upgrade guy. |

I have a windows surface and I'm forced to use Microsoft stuff on it, it automatically updates (you cannot shut the updates off). It has convinced me that Windows is actually a virus (kind of like the machines view of humans in "The Matrix") that exists only to update itself. I hate windows, I hate how those huge tiles appear now on the start screen (no, I don't live in Mumbai so I don't care what the daily weather is there nor do I care what MS thinks is "important news"). |

I'm still plodding along with XP, which still works fine despite all the hoo haa about the world ending when they stopped supporting it. I'd love to switch over to the new Amiga software, but not sure they have the tools I need to do so for the business. |

I am sticking to windows 7 as windows 10 will not support any older platforms and I have lots of programs that use XP and vista. Microsoft is just plain "not nice", jerks. |

I switched from XP to Windows 10. Once more I have been screwed by Microsoft. Do not go to Windows 10. |

I had to update from beloved XP this weekend because I need to use some higher end video and graphics stuff that is no longer supported by it. The new computer is still in the box and not too excited about dealing with Windows 10. I also got a Surface and I hate that operating system. I still don't know how it works and I used that thing for many hours every day for months. |

My employer has around 7000 comupters, all XP and 7. We have been buying computers with 8 and downgrading to 7. Not planning on moving to 10 anytime soon. Will probably start looking into linux instead. |

The new business model for software and anything digital is not a purchase but a rental. You can't buy Adobe you rent by the month, etc. etc. So I've gone to a Google Chrome book for online and an old laptop for everything else. Now I buy old versions of software on Ebay instead of the new stuff… |

This is why I want to move to Amiga. There is a user group of free software called Amigasys and amikit both have a ton of stuff that can be used without paying big bucks for it. The Amiga forever emulator that runs via linux gives you a licensed roms and will DL everything for you. Now I just need to find the time to get it installed and play around with it. amigasys.com amikit.amiga.sk |

Be careful with Windows 10. I had some sort of problem that caused W10 to reboot. It left all my files on the machine but wiped out all software including a legal copy of Microsoft Office 97 which I can not find the disk to reinstall. |

Been using Win10 for some time with no problem. You can choose tiles or not. DosBox allows me to still run old games. So I can't say there's a problem. Far rather that than be locked into Apple. Now there's a closed ecosystem. I use Android on the phone and sync it with gmail, so that's all fixed as well. |

I've had the same experience as Khusrau, and it works Great on my 8 year old laptop! I'm keeping it. |

Last year I had to choose between Win7 and Win8.1 for a new computer. Went with Win7. Thought about taking up MS on their free upgrade to Win10 but waited. Glad I did. Win7 to Win10 is a nightmare. And Win10's performance, update and privacy issues concern me. Maybe Win11. Oh wait, there won't be any more WinX versions. Just continuous updates of Win10. |
