On the one hand, Shiite Iran has been expanding its influence in Iraq and Yemen while trying to keep its influence in Syria intact through the support of the Syrian government. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia has responded in kind by backing Sunni forces throughout the region. Good map to illustrate the current state of affairs. I think this one is developing into one where the West might be best advised to keep out of it as much as possible – difficult, but not sure interference helps. Iran considering Saudi Arabia as the main 'enemy' in a Regional/Religious struggle would seem a lot better development for the West than seeing the US as the main enemy in a Global struggle. Astute observation about the 30YW. I suspect it will be 10x worse in terms of human lives lost. |

Anyone else see this developing in Islams version of the Thirty Years War? Islam has had 1300 years to get that settled. I don't see it resolving anytime soon. |
