A very interesting tactical rules set. Good Interesting approach to the rock -paper- scissors feel of Napoleonic warfare in regards to combined arms. Good for competition type ( Like FOW format) or "throw together games". Good for new person to the hobby in organizing forces. Makes very clear the nuances of the different nation's strengths and weakness of the doctrines and organization of forces and brings them into play of that warfare. Weakness Its competition play format. Seems weak for smoothly running a game of a historical battle. A primary issue being since game is set-up to be completed in a short number of turns (probably due to the completion format). How the rule book reads as a result from translation so some procedures are hard to follow/understand. The movement philosophy of what typically was behind Line VS Column in rough terrain does not make sense. MG |

Things happen quickly in N@W, cavalry can strike a long way, most troops get a second move to reduce the gap between armies to speed things along. Combat calculation is simple and units in a bad place can get vapourised in a round of combat. Friction is generated by simple d6 throws to charge home, do complex moves, form emergency squares etc. Units remove stands in combat so there's no bookkeeping. (The FAQ / amendments on the NAW website will help clear some things up and the player base is patiently waiting for a second edition – no publishing date is known). Regards David F Brown |

Good rules and handles combined arms pretty well. Agree with EvilGong. Good movement rules that speeds things up without being silly. Once you get into an enemy units' "tractor beam", command and control gets interesting and players get rewarded or punished accordingly. That part is subtle and effective. A 2nd edition would be a good idea. |
