I've played X wing once and loved it. Using vouchers and such I have taken the plunge and bought some X wing stuff. Details here: link It has now started to arrive. I was aware that the starter set was box packaged in such away that storage would not be an issue but, as you can see from my order, I ordered several 'extensions'. They are not so well 'put away packaged'. I've seen the foam compartment solutions but I don't get out much so transport isn't an issue. If you were a 'stay at home' what system would you use (not requiring the use of my butler) to keep and store your X wing collection? |

I keep each ship in it's original molded plasitc holder, then toss the box. Those plastic holders get put in larger boxes. Ship Cards/ Ship Tokens / and upgrade cards I keep in Plastic Sleeves in one notebook Ship Cards go in standard Collectable card sleeves. Ship Tokens go in coin collecting sleeves. Upgrade cards go in custom Sleeves I got off ebay. Not hard to find and not expensive. Xin |

I get the bit about storing the models. I had no idea about the number of 'bits' besides. There are associated cards, counters and who knows what. How do people store that lot in any easily recoverable sense? I'm a lucky chap. I have glass fronted storage cabinets with room to spare. Storing models on their own is not the problem. Question: What do I do with the gubbage, the cards, counters, and so forth that relate to the models in a way that allows easy recovery and retrieval? I suppose I'm talking 'filing system'. |

Wander down the fishing aisle at WalMart, and watch for the small Plano plastic storage boxes. One box, six compartments, perfect for sorting the counters and bits for ships. I've modified what goes into what box as my fleet grows, but the focus has always been that I want to give one player one box, another player another box, and they'll have enough counters to mark their ships as they play. Cards are stored in plastic card boxes available at collectible card shops. When I'm not worried about transporting figures, I just stand them up in a large, flat box salvaged from Costco. Stand 'em up, visually sort them, store it flat in the basement. When I am transporting them, I've been using the pluckable foam systems to make custom slots for the ships. Buy a deeper foam block, slide them in nose-first (and NOT flat), and one block can hold a surprising number of ships. |

Yep, Plano boxes with adjustable compartments. I put the counters for each ship in the compartment with the ship, then use the bags that come with the game components to store the cards and extra counters, sorted by type. Because I don't have a lot of closet space, I then store the Plano boxes inside decorative storage boxes from Target's Threshold decor line. One of these currently holds my entire collection this way, including homemade asteroids. I've never bothered with foam, and haven't had any problems with damage or scuffing, so I don't think it's necessary. |

I use two of these for my ships, counters, and templates (You can fit a range ruler down the side between trays and the wall). link I've padded the ships with Walmart upholstery foam, but it's otherwise similar to what people in this Board Game Geek thread have done: link |

Plano Boxes – if you Google X-Wing and Plano box you'll come up with x-wings sites that will give you the exact models. One is double sided and has both small compartments for the counters and larger ones to fit the fighters. Also I have a Stanley box from Home Depot for the larger ships. |

I used plano 3700 series boxes. with hte dividers in you can get like 24 nomral sized fighters in (anytin up to and including a Bwin, in my experience. don't know if tehre are larger "fighters" now. 3750 works for some of teh alrger character ships as well. it has 2 normal rows, plus half teh tray can be left as one big row, or seperated into up to 4 boxes that would fit a slave one or a millennium falcon. |

Michael's craft stores right now have a ton of Star Wars chests, both with flat tops and rounded tops (the latter all seem to give off Star Wars noises when you open the lid – I have Darth's breathing in one, my nephew has pew-pew lasers in his). You could use them as storage for your Plano storage boxes to keep in theme. I have four for my pre-painted WOTC Star Wars figures and models. |
