Having read the excellent Vanished Kingdoms by Norman Davies I was intrigued to see this readers poll from the Liverpool Echo.

The territory on covered by the map is that of Brigantia prior to the Roman cconquest.

I'm also reminded that British Scifi writer Michael Moorcock envisaged this scenario in one of his 1970s novels.

Its a funny old world.

I live in Tyneside, so as far as I'm concerned, the likes of Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham etc, are in the Midlands.

Agreed on Manchester and Birmingham but Liverpool was always recognised as 'true' North in my young day on the banks of the Tyne.
