I hope it's Ok but I copied 47Ronin's original thread and just updated it to 2016. As he originally asked:

"What are your gaming plans for 2016?

What projects do you hope to start or complete in the coming year?

Since different parts of the world will commemorate various anniversaries in 2015, I have spread this topic around the globe.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2016."

I did complete a bunch of my projects in 2015 and felt that the 2015 thread kept me on course a bit. So here goes:

1) I assembled 2 good sized 28mm Samurai consisting of metal figures from Perry, Steel Fist, Kingsford and the Assault Group. I also assembled a large amount of the Wargmes Factory Ashigaru and Cavalry. While I did paint a few of the units, these babies are going to a painter. Hopefully they will be done this year.

2) I bought a bunch of Galloping Major French and Indian figures from a shop in Maryland and had Evil Bob paint them, instead of shipping them to Canada. I got some regular French and British troops from the Warlord Xmas sale and they will also make it to Evil Bob, whose work is outstanding

Ok, so much for the professionally painted projects,

3) I am hopefully only a month or two from finishing painting and basing my 28mm Conquistador and Aztec armies. Figures are from Foundry, the Assault Group, and Eureka. Hopefully, they will be ready by Historicon. I have already completed Hail Caesar army lists for them.

4) I am also a few months from completing a 28mm Swedish TYW army. About half the army is just blocked out and will need a staining wash and then highlights and then basing. Figures are Warlord, Foundry and The Assault Group.

5) I picked up enough figures for another Saga army, this time Irish. Figures are from Footsore. I painted Brian Boru and his sons and retainers and haven't started the rank and file troops.

6) When these are all done I will concentrate on my 28mm Inca army. These are from Foundry and Outpost, and will be another foil for the Conquistadors. That should carry me into 2017.

So what's on everyone else's agenda?

Oh ya, as 47Ronin stated, I hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2016!

John the OFM31 Dec 2015 9:18 p.m. PST

My own personal project is getting enough 25/28mm AWI figures based on washers so I can do games using The Sword and the Flame rules.

One of the "armies" will be lots of Scottish Highlanders so I can do Widow Moore's Creek Bridge. What's that you say? "The "Highlanders" at that battle likely did not wear kilts or trews?"
No matter. This will be a stepping stone to next doing the '45.

When I get enough feedback on using TSATF for the AWI, I will send my notes to Lori Brom, to see if she wants to use them. And if she can't, I'm having fun painting and playing.

Saturday, I will be doing Bennington, which will give me lots of Hessian/Brunswick grenadiers. Not to mention another Continental regiment, the Green Mountain Boys.

When I get enough feedback on using TSATF for the AWI, I will send my notes to Lori Brom, to see if she wants to use them. And if she can't, I'm having fun painting and playing.

Now that's a cool project. Let us know how that goes.

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut31 Dec 2015 10:19 p.m. PST

1) Frostgrave. I am still actively working on stuff for this game, and I hope to actually play it one day. Bashytubits is largely a factor in this :-)

2) Colonials. A local group plays a VSF Colonials campaign, I am doing Japanese with historically inaccurate but highly stylish Wargames Factory Ashigaru and Samurai.

3) WWII naval. Again, I blame Bashytubits. I want to build a Japanese fleet. It seems I like Japanese stuff.

4) Sci-Fi Skirmish. Not too sure how this is going to shake out, but I'd like to get back into this at some point.

Really, I would be happy to just get in a game of *anything* once a month.

1) I started collecting figures for a 25mm witchfinder project. Tomorrow, I am actually going to start painting what I have acquired so far.

2) To get my brother to do some 1/72 WWII gaming since he is the one who suggested we put together some forces for same.

3) Yesterday I purchased various figures for the start of a 25mm Hyborian Age project. We'll see how that goes.

4) Remount my 25mm ACW collection, and run a few games.

5) Continue to add to my 60mm John Jenkins F&IW collection.

6) Do something with my various collections of 54mm plastic figures.

7) I would really like to do some Imaginations with 25mm Spencer Smith figures.

Only two:

  1. Jutland. 2016 is the centennial, I'm a naval gamer, 'nuff said. I have the fleets in two scales. In the near future I'd like to game the various historical scenarios in 1/2400, but later in the year I'd like to try a full-blown map campaign (or two, or three, or fifteen…).
  2. The 1866 Franco-American War in Mexico. This is a silly project that started in September (2015) when earlofwessex began a conversation about gaming a post-ACW US invasion of Mexico to kick out the French forces of Napoleon III, and I got sucked in. The historic French Intervention in Mexico was already an extremely colorful story full of larger-than-life characters, and the more I look into the "what if" campaign, the more colorful it gets. I already have plenty of 15mm ACW miniatures and a big start on a 1/1200 scale ACW naval collection, so I decided to use them for something completely different. I wrote some campaign rules, made a good start on a map and OOB, began buying 1/1200 wooden ships (esp. French SOLs, frigates and ironclads) and have now acuired a lot of painted 15mm FPW miniatures. This project is nearly ready to kick off in February.

Firstly, finish the 3 Lion Rampant armies (one each for the 2 kids and myself)

Secondly, paint and base Brit and German desert war armies, oh and finish the rules, build terrain etc.

Thirdly, if I actually manage to finish the above then start painting all the 2nd gen 15mm minifig Napoleonic's I've been collecting over the last couple of years…111 packs at last count!
Actually I think I'll be happy if I just manage to complete the first one.

2016 is going to be the year of painting. No real projects, just a push to get through the lead pile.

Just gaming more.

Cold War for me. Actually writing the scenarios this time.

And play more

Tom Reed01 Jan 2016 9:48 a.m. PST

My plan is to actually get some stAlled projects finished.
1. My 25mm Sand Pebbles game.
2. Redo my 25mm old west town.
3. Start a 15mm scifi game based on The 5th Foreign Legion books.

Early morning writer01 Jan 2016 10:52 a.m. PST

My 2016 plan is to make substantial progress on my old west setup – something rather different from the skirmish level games most folks do.

I begin with the railroad equipment: 9 locomotives and 36 bits of rolling stock and the track for it to run on.

And then come the other rolling bits: wagons, coach, carts and such to a number of 80 or so.

And three towns, two small and using commercial products and one very large and scratch built, probably more than 100 buildings all told.

And for those thinking those numbers are excessive (well, they are), it will be in 15 mm so not quite as crazy as it sounds (though it sounds crazy enough, surely).

Perhaps my madness means I'm just having more fun!

TheKing3001 Jan 2016 1:03 p.m. PST

Here are my plans for 2016….

1) Learn to master an airbrush. I paint pretty good but to take things to the next level I really have to use an airbrush.

2) ACW – Finish off what I have for Union and Confederate

3) AWI – Start on that project – I'm mixing in F&I War into this

4) Infinity – I've been playing that and I'm really enjoying that game. I'm going to continue to play and expand that part of my wargaming experience.

Finally – stay away from Kickstarters!!! I've seen too many big ones go bad andI'm not interested in losing any more money!

Happy 2016 everyone!

Bowman01 Jan 2016 2:41 p.m. PST

4) Infinity – I've been playing that and I'm really enjoying that game. I'm going to continue to play and expand that part of my wargaming experience.

Well the theme of this year's Weekend is Sci-Fi.

Just saying! wink

TheKing3001 Jan 2016 8:00 p.m. PST

Well the theme of this year's Weekend is Sci-Fi.

I'm gonna get to the point where I can run some demos at The Weekend. I have two armies and the game is a blast!!

PzGeneral01 Jan 2016 10:04 p.m. PST

Team Yankee.

More Zulus for Rorke's Drift.

Keep painting my Kings of War Dwarves and Undead.

Paint more of the AQMF stuff I received (and hope I get what I'm owed).

And TRY not to start any new projects!!!!

Mick in Switzerland02 Jan 2016 4:03 a.m. PST

1415-1430
I will add to my Agincourt forces when the Perry Plastic French and Mounted MAA come out. I am thinking about scenarios for the siege of Orleans, using Lion Rampant.

Star Wars
I am looking to add ground forces to X-Wing and have already bought a couple of troop transports. I will probably use Pendraken figures.

Fantasy
I have a lot of figures to paint from Bones 2. I have also bought Dragon Rampant and Otherworld skirmish.

Moderns
I have lots of painted Empress and Spectre figures and have just bought Black Ops

jdpintex02 Jan 2016 9:08 a.m. PST

Yep, both.

Codsticker02 Jan 2016 9:43 a.m. PST

My gaming plans are simple- try to get to Jeff's to play as much as possible; a combination of ECW, Pulp Alley and The Sword and The Flame. Projects for 2016…
- finish off my second Warlord Pike and Shotte Battalia, focusing on those Royalist regiments involved in The Relief of Newark
- paint a Samurai bushi for Ronin to fight my Ming bushi
- start painting my small Indus miniatures collection
- build and paint an Irish warband for Saga
- build and paint a Spanish warband for Saga
- try to pick off the odd terrain project here and there

Mute Bystander02 Jan 2016 11:04 a.m. PST

Not in his order:

28mm/25mm:

Sell, trade, give away what I can, trash the rest except for legacy dwarf and goblin, soldado de cuera, Tarzanesque VSF, perhaps a single style SF, and Zorro figures.

15mm/18mm:

Rationalize what I have and fill holes.

6mm:

Limit to current SF/Fantasy lines and current WW1 aircraft, maybe fill in a holes.

3mm:

Expand Lace Wars, collect small ACW and Napoleonic armies for display/demonstration, finish having WW1thru 1980 aircraft painted, possibly explore potential fantasy/SF armies.

Get all of my All Quiet On The Martian Front painted and get it in to some games. Lucky for me there are a few others in the area how are addicted to it.

Finish painting my 3 plus armies for Lion Rampant. Locally we are starting a campaign. Unfortunately I am home sick and not playing LR today.

15mm Sci Fi. I have a ton of this to paint and we only played one game this year, so that has to change.

Modern Armor, I will dig out my old ROCO Minitanks and give them a real paint job. The group has a bunch of 1/72 – HO scale stuff and we want to get some games going. Not sure what rules yet…..

Bowman02 Jan 2016 8:27 p.m. PST

Love reading this stuff. Shows how big and varied this hobby really is. Keep 'em coming!

Rotundo03 Jan 2016 1:08 p.m. PST

Well. I finally built a castle I have had for years now. This will be featured in my Cold War game. I am also slogging thru my Wild West project. My guys are asking if I am cloning the cowboys because it is taking me so long to paint them.

ViscountEric04 Jan 2016 9:00 a.m. PST

1) Dust off the lead pile that's been sitting at my painting table since mid-October and finish the outstanding projects:

2) Terrain: I have 15 palms trees and miscellaneous jungle terrain to assemble and paint.

3) Spider Martians… Spider Martians: I've got a pile of GW/Heartbreaker goblins that I'm painting electric blue to use in sci-fi, pulp, Kings of War and Song of Blades of Heroes. I'm working on an iridescent paint scheme for the spiders, both for mounted cav, and a few free-range varieties I snagged from the dollar store to test the paint.

4) Gnomes! Plenty of gnomes to finish up, maybe Teddy Bears too.

5) Pulp! Between the Pulp Figures order and RAFM CoC order still outstanding, I have plenty of figs to do for my kids' Savage Showdown game.

6) Terrain and painting for the figs I already own for my 2017 project Mouse-a-geddon or Rat-narok! So long as my Reaper Bones III Kickstarter arrives before Christmas, I'll have enough time to finish everything to unveil it as kid and adult versions using Of God and Mortals for Cold War 2017, wherever THAT is held.

My initial priorities of projects for first half of 2016 …

Complete 300 points of 28mm Persians for Impetus
Construct 4 more Mediterranean style buildings
2 more 25/28mm ships, and at least 24 pirates
3 more 2'x4' game boards
More 40mm AWI figures

47Ronin06 Jan 2016 11:58 a.m. PST

You are welcome to borrow from me anytime, Bowman.

Glad you kept the topic going.

FYI, I still have a few packs of figures which might work for your SAGA projects. You can look for them at the Saturday morning flea market at Cold Wars. I'm trying to think positive in the hopes of making the convention happen on schedule.

Hope to see you there.

Bowman19 Jan 2016 3:08 p.m. PST

6) When these are all done I will concentrate on my 28mm Inca army. These are from Foundry and Outpost, and will be another foil for the Conquistadors. That should carry me into 2017.

So the good news is that I have completed #3 already! That includes ordering a cannon and crew from Foundry during Xmas break and getting it done.

The bad news is when I made this list I forgot about my 28mm US Marines. Figures are from Warlord and The Assault Group. Darn!, I thought I was making some inroads.

Ok, who else actually got the metal/plastic pile down a bit?

To answer Boweman's question … and from my list for the first half of 2016 …

Complete 300 points of 28mm Persians for Impetus
Construct 4 more Mediterranean style buildings
2 more 25/28mm ships, and at least 24 pirates
3 more 2'x4' game boards
More 40mm AWI figures,

It's only 3 weeks into the new year, but progress is being made on the 28mm Persians, and purchased foam board for the buildings. Much more to go!

TSD10120 Jan 2016 1:23 p.m. PST

I'll be making some dry riverbed terrain for my Valverde scenario at CW soon. Need about 4 feet of it, but I plan on making 8 feet or so for different curves and the like and keep it in the terrain box.

I have hardboard MDF from Home Depot, paints, scenic cement, and glues, sand, flock, and some spackle to build up the edges.

Its the treated on 1 side hardboard and rough on the other. I guess I need to read up on a good sealer to find something to prevent warping.

Old Contemptibles20 Jan 2016 1:49 p.m. PST

1. Complete my 15mm FPW French Imperial and German Armies.
2. Keep working on AWI Trenton buildings and figures.
3. Find a set of Napoleonic rules I like or can settle on.
4. 15mm Hougoumont project.
5. Do some more 25mm mounted Boers.
6. 25mm AWI Philly Campaign.
7. Do some 25mm Saracen archers for "Lion Rampant".
8. 15mm Cobblestone Roads.

So far, with January gone I have already been distracted from my To Do list and have been painting some GW Empire troops.

Oh well….

What flavor of SAGA figures, Ronin? I'm looking for something to twist into low-level fighting mooks for a Frostgrave team.

Obsidian2310 Feb 2016 8:05 p.m. PST

Ok so I thought I would put the pic in of the figures that I did on project 1 for 2016. Will do this for each completed one from here.

After 20 years of painting I hope I would have decent technique down by now or probably would take up knitting!

Piano Man18 Feb 2016 9:18 p.m. PST

1. Finally finish up my early Byzantine / Late Roman army that I have been noodling with for years. Its 'that' close.

2. Finish the last bits of my ECW Royalists. Two cavalry units to go, horses already painted.

3. Maybe work up SAGA Normans, but we'll see since I got distracted.

4. Working on building a city for Frostgrave. Never really built terrain before, but to be honest I am having a blast.

5. Figures for Frostgrave.

I haven't played a game yet, but thats ok, the terrain is providing me with a lot of fun that I haven't had in a long time!

Bowman19 Feb 2016 6:26 p.m. PST

Piano Man,

May I ask what size figurines your Byzantine/Late Romans, ECW Royalists and Normans are?

And, will you be going to Historicon?

Silurian19 Feb 2016 7:52 p.m. PST

So 2016 is going to be the year of Ancients for me. I've never played this period before but the enthusiasm has been building for a while, and nows the time to plan the purchases and build the armies.
Nice and safe Imperial Romans to start I think, early to middle, and their enemies. 15mm for big battles.

I also just played my first game of X-Wing, great fun, so I've a sneaking suspicion a lot of Reb and dastardly Empire space craft are also in my future.

Piano Man20 Feb 2016 7:53 p.m. PST

Hey Bowman, its Ralph right?

This is Mark.

All 25/28mm – you have played with the ECW ones.

I am planning on Historicon, yes.

Bowman20 Feb 2016 10:21 p.m. PST

Hi Mark,

I challenge you to finish your ECW Army and your Byzantines and I will bring appropriate armies to play them at Historicon. How is that to push you into completing them?

Piano Man21 Feb 2016 10:46 p.m. PST

Byzantines is very doable, I will do my best on the ECW!

Bowman07 Mar 2016 4:03 p.m. PST

OK, updates on my 28mm armies.

1) Japanese Samurai armies ready to go to painters.

2) FIW British and French line troops to go to Evil Bob at Cold Wars.

3) Inca army (that I said I would paint) is also going to the painters.

now for what I did:

1) Finished the Aztec and Conquistador army

2) Finished the TYW Swedish army. Then bought two boxes of Cuirassiers. 'Cuz who wants a finished army? I am working through the first box.

3) Have a 6 point Saga Irish army to work on. Should be started in late spring.

4) Have the rest of 2016 to work on my WW2 US Marines.

I like working on each army in bits and pieces for variety, but that's not a good way to get things completed.

OK, how is everyone else doing? Getting stuff completed?

@Piano Man,

Get cracking on the Late Roman/Byzantines. You have till Historicon. Then they will feel the might of the Sassanids.

47Ronin08 Mar 2016 5:59 p.m. PST

Just saw your message, capncarp.

FYI, everything for the Cold Wars Sat. morning flea market is already packed up. I know there are some Renegade, Artizan and Old Glory/Revenge figures in there. You might find them useful for your needs.

Hope to see you there. Bowman is also always welcome.

Bowman21 Mar 2016 4:44 p.m. PST

3) I am hopefully only a month or two from finishing painting and basing my 28mm Conquistador and Aztec armies. Figures are from Foundry, the Assault Group, and Eureka. Hopefully, they will be ready by Historicon. I have already completed Hail Caesar army lists for them.

Well, the good news is that I finished them 2 weeks ago. But what is this word finished. At Wally's basement, I found a fellow selling Foundry Aztecs that were mislabeled ancient Germans. So of course I bought them.

Also my Late Roman army was done. The same fellow had Late Romans, so my friend (Piano Man from above) and I almost cleared him out.

I rarely find good stuff in the flea markets. This time I found that my supposedly finished armies needed some expanding.
