After watching the pilot I quite liked it. An interesting take on the classic story – but I think that any similarities with the Boewulf saga we know and love will be fleeting. I thought the CGI 'mud-born' were pretty good for a TV show – although I hope that the entire CGI budget was not blown on the pilot and the mudborn will be represented by stick figures in the remaining episodes. Boewulf was suitably broody and grim faced. Everyone and everything was so clean and there was the obligatory introduction of people of all races into a European story – which is why this is 'fantasy' and not a telling of a traditional saga. The only thing I thought was a bit crass was the theme music and opening credit graphics. Borrowed a wee bit too much for another popular fantasy show. I would give it 6/10 so far. Didn't waste the 45 minutes I spent watching it. |
