HG I am sure a con runner will soon chime in with definitive info re attendance, but FWIW I have been to the last 3 Williamsburg shows. Attendance varies a bit based on several variables. Firstly, it depends on the side event(s). In addition to the basic historic miniatures event, there is often a secondary group present. At one show there was a slot car race tourney. At another there was a Warhammer tourney. These are usually in one of 3 good sized side rooms, not depicted in their main room pictures. The slot car group had maybe 50. Warhammer drew maybe 100. At the last show there was a small (20ish) group doing a LARP in several rooms on one of the upper floors. There is normally a small board game group presence. All the groups seem to do a very good job staying out of each other's hair. Attendance at the Feb con seems heavier than at the Aug show. I'd GUESS that there were maybe 300 there last Feb. Maybe 200 in the summer. They average 10-15 vendors. Some HMGS east con stalwarts show up. They often have some nifty fringe vendors. One year there was a guy who strikes his own fantasy game coinage. At the last show there was an booth doing an estate sale with a shot ton of cool stuff, (sadly.) It's a fun relaxed weekend. The host hotel is no Waldorf Astoria, but it suits me AOK. I may be a poor guide in this as I really liked the Congress/Passport in Lancaster that was so bad they tore it down. FWIW, re going to Fredericksburg, I have to talk myself into going. Re going to Williamsburg, I am going,…and I already have my bells on. Hope to see you there… |

Sorry historygamer, I have been away over the holidays. Mr. Pinder is correct. Our conventions average 250 attendees. I believe our last convention (summer) Guns of August had over 300 attendees. Justin |
vagamer63 | 06 Jan 2016 9:25 p.m. PST |
HG, We are what you would term a Regional Convention. Our attendees come mostly from the Mid Atlantic Region from states like North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and New Jersey, with a few folks from outside that area. For instance in the picture above you'll see Martin Goddard, (proprietor of Peter Pig) running his ACW Ironclads game. (Front Center of photo) As Justin, mentioned above our last summer show "Guns of August" drew 318 paid attendees, a number that doesn't include the Convention Staff, Vendors, or special groups which are counted separately. We are starting our eighth year, and because of growing interest and attendance will be moving to a larger venue this summer. We'll still be quartered in Williamsburg, VA, and having a grand time twice a year. Our main goal is to provide attendees an opportunity to play games in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, and just have a good time for a weekend. We've so far been pretty successful at attaining that goal! |
