If you've ever sold or given away figures/units/armies have you ever regretted it?

As storage space is a premium, I actually find it a relief to divest myself of figures that won't be used/ used much.

jeffreyw318 Dec 2015 3:33 p.m. PST

Nope--gave them clean away, and don't miss'em a bit.

IanKHemm18 Dec 2015 3:41 p.m. PST

I've sold heaps of armies and individual figures.
I collected all the major parties in WWII in various theaters for years. I eventually sold them all whilst going through a divorce.

I also use to make cheap Warhammer and 40k armies (mostly second hand stuff and scatch builds). Never played a game but I just liked the figures and after a while I would sell them for a large profit.

I sold off huge chunks of my collection. what's left is what I want to keep.

There have been a couple that I then later re-built/re-purchased, but in the main, no. I sold them as I reviewed what I was doing and they no longer fit.

I have a couple things that I am almost ready to let go for the price of Postage (MechWarrior anyone?)

JimDuncanUK18 Dec 2015 4:48 p.m. PST

Nope, not at all.

My wargaming buddy died a couple of years ago and I've spent a lot of time since painting and selling off his collections. I've raised a bucket load of cash for charity.

During that time I've sold a lot of my own stuff too, in particular stuff to match my buddies as I wouldn't be using them against a new partner.

I regret the loss of my buddy but the figures, nah! I have plenty more.

No, not really.

I sold off most all the miniatures from periods I relized I would never get to or wasn't really that interested in. No regrets there. How ever I did sell some figures that could have been used to expand armies. Had a DBA sized force and sold off the extras and now would like to do the period with a different rule set needing more figures. That I sort of regret. I don't sell off painted lead.

Nope. I've always been careful with my purchases. It's fun to joke around about "Oh, shiny!" but it's not something I succumb to.

No.

I sold off painted true 25mm Vikings when I realized I was really interested in skirmish gaming and the sagas, not refighting big Dark Age battles with WRG rules. The 28mm figures in different poses are a much better fit for this sort of game than the uniform poses of the old 25mm figures were. I kept a couple favorite figures. No regrets there; I'm happy with my new army.

I have sold off quite a few unpainted figures which I realized I had lost interest in or would never get to. Again, no regrets.

I do need to get busy and list more unpainted figures to sell.

Nope! Sold off all my 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 28mm, & 54mm collections over the years and now just do 40mm and am lovin' it.

kiltboy18 Dec 2015 6:20 p.m. PST

I once grabbed a bag of 15mm Russians Naps off of ebay that I sold on to focus on 6mm.
Seven or so years later I've started back on 15mm Naps and would like those Russians back.
The other pieces I sold I only mildly regret buying in the first place.

I dumped a large part of a 20mm WWII collection that I now wish I had kept. That's been my only change of heart in 35 years.

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut18 Dec 2015 8:34 p.m. PST

I regret parting with every last piece, no matter how small, that has left my collection for any reason.

I understand that the DSM V classifies hoarding as a mental illness.

No. Focusing on what I really wanted to paint/play and eliminating distractions has worked well.

Ragbones18 Dec 2015 9:37 p.m. PST

I very much regret selling my Seven Years War collection.

Martin Rapier19 Dec 2015 1:08 a.m. PST

I generally regret disposing of most stuff I've got rid of, and some cases spent considerable time and effort reaquiring them.

I'll never get that beautiful 15mm 8th Army back again though, or my copy of White Box D&D, or Striker with all my vehicle designs in it. Whyyyyyyyy…..???

Just to save a bit of shelf space. Pah.

I've never regretted getting rid of unpainted figures or rules I haven't played.

I have regretted getting rid of painted figures (my 15mm Napoleonics! My 6mm WW2 Russians & Germans!! My Gripping Beast Spanish and Andalusians!!! Bleeped text was I thinking!!!)

And I have regretted getting rid of some boardgames, particularly Space Hulk and Advanced Heroquest, but plenty others too – Panzerblitz, Onslaught. Again, Bleeped text?!?! OTOH there are plenty of boardgames that I haven't regretted getting rid of: World in Flames, ASL, Fighting Wings. I think they were the ones which were too complicated for their own good.

To be honest I don't sell off terribly often, but I've only regretted it once – a 25mm Ch'in Dynasty army made of the old QT figures that with hindsight I wish I'd hung on to. Barring that one, my occasional sell-offs have been largely regret free – I do miss a couple of Wings Of Glory repaint units that have gone, but those are replacable, while other sell-offs have been a definite good thing.

No, have every figure I have ever bought

Like many,I suspect,I let my TSATF Zulu War collection get out of hand,to the point of inertia, game speed wise.Plus they were all Ral Partha, midgets next to the newer figures. Sold them off. Now it seems there's a resurgence of interest in the old lines,so I wish I had them. They were beautiful sculpts(Tom Meir). Same with the Fuzzies.

Some stuff I bought with the intent to sell it no matter what. I've sold very few painted armies and have not regretted letting them go. I have way too much but have some sons that have varying levels of interest. They will carry the torch.

Mute Bystander21 Dec 2015 8:47 a.m. PST

Regrets, I have has a few… but not selling/trading/giving away unused miniatures.

Patrick Sexton Supporting Member of TMP21 Dec 2015 11:08 a.m. PST

The only thing I would like to get back are the Hinchcliffe Sassanids that I sold back in 1977.
