I liked all of them, but, I thought Book had the best potential storyline to develop. |

The guy who pulled the plug on the series. He mercy-killed a flabby, unfocused, self-indulgent show that was going nowhere, and left the door open – albeit unwittingly – for its reimagining as a tightly-plotted, fast-paced movie with a proper story arc, cracking set-pieces and a satisfying conclusion. |

Well, we'll just have to disagree, NDL, there was nothing tight-plotted, proper, or satisfying about Serenity. |

Jayne for me. He was pretty much an amoral butt-head, but the fact he was always on the look-out to assume command gave the series a spark; made it more real and 'piratical.' A little like Avon's role in Blake's 7. |

In order, top to least,: Mal, Book, Jayne, Kaylee, Wash, Zoe, River, Inara, Simon. The big downjump in thatlist is really after River, but it's not that big of a jump, either. Best non-regulars or one-time characters: "Saffron," Jubal, the Blue Hands, the older gentleman at the party in "Shin-dig." Also have to disagree completely with NDL (whom I suspect of just stirring the pot to be contrary). |

Heh… rumbled! I am, of course, exaggerating for effect. But yeah, I thought the show was long on promise and short on delivery. To be honest, though: I thoroughly enjoyed the 119 minutes I spent watching the crew unravel the mystery of how Buffy (Oops, I meant River) became a Slayer (Oops, I meant Academic). If, however, they'd spent, say… seven seasons telling that story, I simply wouldn't have bothered with it. In the spirit of the OP, then: Chewitel Ejiofor's nameless "Operative". A formidable villain who went through believable character progression as the story unfolded. |
Patrick Sexton | 17 Dec 2015 3:17 p.m. PST |
I both completely disagree with NDL on his first point but completely agree with him on the main point of the second. |
Patrick Sexton | 17 Dec 2015 3:19 p.m. PST |
As to the OP, Mal and Zoe. |
15mm and 28mm Fanatik | 17 Dec 2015 6:41 p.m. PST |
Going by hotness alone: Inara, obviously. Going by character traits, moral code and badassery: Mal. So it really depends on whether I'm thinking with my head or other parts at the moment. |
Pictors Studio | 17 Dec 2015 7:24 p.m. PST |
Kaylee, if going by hotness alone, or anything else really. |
15mm and 28mm Fanatik | 17 Dec 2015 7:43 p.m. PST |
To me Kaylee (Jewel Staite) is more cute than hot, but ymmv. However, in light of her charming sweetness and flair for keeping a piece of junk space-worthy I might just have to revise my earlier conclusions myself. |

I feel that a bit of my liking Book though is just because I have such fond memories of Barney Miller. "Hey it's Harris and he's a super badass!" |
ochoin | 18 Dec 2015 1:16 p.m. PST |
I liked 'Firefly' but I admit it's greatest attraction was its promise of better to come: a reasonable 1st Season capped off by a truly remarkable 3rd Season…. It's a pity more Sci-Fi fans, rather than sitting around & (justifiably) complaining about the rubbish on TV , didn't get behind it. |
