I want to war game Blackbeard's last fight off the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I ended up buying 3 sloops from Peter Pig as well some guns, crews and boats. This will allow me to game the battle on a kitchen table.

In the battle, the government ships Ranger and Jane have plenty of crew but no guns, Blackbeard's sloop has guns but short on crew. With this in mind, I am looking for a simple rule set that allows some sailing, possibility of running aground and some boarding actions, all of which can be done in 1/450 scale. I know of Peter Pig's "Pieces of Eight", but not sure if the current or former version can handle what I'm looking for. Simple sailing rules but something that takes into account wind and running aground, as well as both shooting and boarding actions.

Simon Stokes ran this as the NWS participation game at Salute a few years back. I may have the rules here somewhere. Let me know if you would like a copy

Dig around here on TMP, with a search on Blackbeard.

I think I posted a link to that publication, that had the rules in it, a while back, here on TMP. IIRC, there are rules for vessel combat and boarding action too. You'll need a copy of Peter Pig's Pieces of Eight rules, or another set of pirate rules for naval and man-to-man combat.

Sailpower has a nice set of sailing rules that can be used for pirate actions as well. They also make some nice vessels, including a Bermuda sloop in 15mm scale, so you can have vessels and even boarding actions on them, if desired.

Each of the two, smaller sloops supposedly had a pair of railguns each, IIRC, but were otherwise unarmed. Blackbeard's vessel clearly had them outgunned.
