Hi all,

I've just added a first look at the new WW2 rules 'Iron Cross' to my blog. You can read the review here. For those of you who can't be bothered following the link they are a fast play set of rules which concentrates on tactical depth from the activation system. My verdict I like them and can't wait to get a game in using them.

Thanks for the review. My copy is on the way.

GROSSMAN10 Dec 2015 11:18 a.m. PST

So units are 4-5 figs in 28mm is this meant to be a fire team, and what is the time/ground unit size scale?

Mr Canuck10 Dec 2015 11:28 a.m. PST

Good review – thanks!

Sounds like some interesting mechanisms in the game play.

Ferbs Fighting Forces10 Dec 2015 12:36 p.m. PST

Grossman 6 or 7 infantry units represents a company, vehicles are 1 to 1.

Tom Reed10 Dec 2015 12:39 p.m. PST

Is this another one of those player vs. player games or can more than two people play at a time? My group likes games with multiple players, 4-8 or so.

jdginaz10 Dec 2015 12:47 p.m. PST

Interesting sounds like many of the mechanisms are varations of those in Chain of Command from TFL

Ferbs Fighting Forces10 Dec 2015 1:26 p.m. PST

Tom Reed it takes multiple players easily.

comstarhpg10 Dec 2015 3:27 p.m. PST

Nice review Peter :)

Cheers Matt

Great first review. I have my order in so waiting excitedly for the postie to arrive.

CptKremmen10 Dec 2015 4:26 p.m. PST

4-5 men represent an 8-10 man squad
1 tank = 1 tank
1 ATG or mortar = 2-3 gun / mortar teams

My copy arrived today

Look excellent

coopman10 Dec 2015 4:36 p.m. PST

Thanks. I'm really looking forward to trying these out.

andyfb10 Dec 2015 10:42 p.m. PST

Waiting for mine to arrive Down under.

The Meeples podcast gave me the incentive to order😁

German squads…..does the 5 man group include the LMG or MMG? Or are these separate support teams?

Cheers Andy 😁

blooddave10 Dec 2015 11:31 p.m. PST

I pre-ordered them. I plan to to use them for 15mm sci-fi with minimal changes besides custom army lists.

BobGrognard10 Dec 2015 11:32 p.m. PST

The five man groups are whatever you want. There is no allowing for different weapons, a US squad = a German squad = a Japanese squad = a British squad. They all move and shoot just the same.

Ferbs Fighting Forces11 Dec 2015 2:40 a.m. PST

You can have an MMG as a support weapon unit on its own. The only thing you can add to an infantry unit are 'shreks/bazookas etc.

Nice review. Looking forward to more once you get a chance to play the system. Especially interested in any "bigger" games you may try it out with.

Tom Reed11 Dec 2015 8:02 a.m. PST

THanks Ferb, and thanks for the review. I will probably be picking up a copy for my group to try out.

Ceterman11 Dec 2015 8:10 a.m. PST

A lot of the mechanics here are straight from CrossFire, not all, but many. Mind you, that's a good thing IMHO. I'm interested in what ya'll think of the multi-player and armor aspects of these. Since that is the biggest complaints for CF. I did read on the actual website it is best designed for 2 players. Just like CF.

I am a fan of crossfire, and i see what you mean regarding unit activation and no real ranges.

But there is plenty that is different and crossfire was a great game, or would have been if Arty finished the rules properly for tanks etc.

I think Iron Cross is an excellent set of rules

Achtung Minen11 Dec 2015 1:33 p.m. PST

Looks like another fun system. I'm a dyed in the wool Lardy, but I'll bet CF fans will have fun with this. Any word on how the vehicle fighting works? Also, are there rules for all the little bits and bobs as well (snipers, pregame artillery, hidden units, panerknackers, weather etc)?

Ceterman11 Dec 2015 4:13 p.m. PST

CptKremmen,
Have you played it? I'm not knocking the rules at all, quite the opposite. But I want to know how the armor rules have been "finished properly for tanks etc." And are their different was of playing with 4 or more players. But I do have one complaint. CrossFire IS a great game, IMHO! ;)
Achtnug Minen, Exactly!
Thanks

Crap, I need a new set of WW2 rules as much as I need another set of WW2 rules

Sounds altogether too interesting to pass down though…pesky rule makers you win again

Wargamer Blue11 Dec 2015 5:56 p.m. PST

The Crossfire aspect attracted me to this game as well. Made me buy it in fact. And I like how the activations happen which is a lot like Point Blank from Iron Ivan Games. The only thing that seems strange is no artillery. But it may work. I will wait to have a game.

CptKremmen12 Dec 2015 4:22 a.m. PST

NO!

I have not played the game, aiming to play this coming Wednesday

I've read it 10 times and examined all the armour and gun values as this worried me but it LOOKS good on paper

I can live with no artillery, use mortars instead.

What i have just realised is there is no troop quality, which i am ok with but need some special rules for paratrooper types??

Andy

CptKremmen….

There is a free to download pdf that comes out on the site by the 15th. It has lists for SS, Volksgrenadiers, British/Cdn Airborne and US Airborne.

Above is from GEG on their Facebook page😁

RetroBoom14 Dec 2015 9:16 a.m. PST

Other than infinite ranges, I not understanding how this is like Crossfire. Can anyone elaborate?
