I am working on a old school Chaos Dwarf army and I really want to do round bases for infantry, but also use movement trays. What are your thoughts? I have seen some rather neat ones where people have integrated some terrain to fit in some of the slots.

It's a good idea. I have begun a (slow, really long-term) project to re-base all my chaos infantry (though probably not the dwarves) and slann on round bases. Many of the chaos warriors almost need 30mm (or better) bases to "rank-up"; having the ability to rotate them to fit them all together on a sabot base such at the one you have here is invaluable. With my slann, it has the additional bonus of making a an often high number of duplicate miniatures still look like irregular troops. |

Look at Litko for movement trays. I use square bases for "regulars" who move in cadenced movement of mass formations and round bases for "Irregular" forces such as levy/militia/barbarians. |

It used to be if you were going to play Warhammer Fantasy Battle it made more sense to use square bases. Not so much any more. Go with what you like. |

Litko has a wide array of movement trays for round bases in various sizes. I am basing all my GW figures on round bases so that they can skirmish as well as rank up on trays. I have a large LOTR collection on round bases and I could never commit to rebasing them on square bases, so with the advent of AoS and death of WFB, I am going the other way and making everything on round. This has the added bonus of making my 500 D&D preprinted figures relevant. |
