I have killed this project due to the lack of the sculptor, aka Big Mean Elf, BME, Joseph Byrd, darkbrotherjoseph@yahoo.com, Brother Josephs Forge. He has not supplied me with a single miniature that I have paid in good faith for so this relationship is now ended. He has avoided my phone calls and has rarely returned them in the past couple of months. |

Sorry to hear that. Of course, Mr. Byrd made himself no friends here with all the smack he was talking, and I think Soldat became unfairly associated with him. I'm not one to say that BME was universally reviled, but when even the Frothers people can't stomach him... well, that probably says it all. I think he's one of the reasons we even *have* a Dawghouse! So , about Soldat: Were you doing up rules as well as minis? Is there still hope for the rules? |
| Scurvy | 27 Mar 2005 8:17 a.m. PST |
what was the name of that fantastic 4 guy who used to say 'flame on!'? I have to get a gross of cheap alspestos suits I can sell for a profit on TMP. Its either that or Bill buys a prison hulk to put the overflow from the DH on. |

I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so", I will not say "I told you so"... I might say "BBBBWWWWWAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!" if I was a cruel person. However, I will give my condolences to you for having been taken for a ride by the BMEr, and I'm sorry that you're out of pocket on the project due to the recklessness of his youth... Now anyone want to take a bet on the BMEr's zombie project ever seeing the light of day? |
| ttauri | 27 Mar 2005 8:44 a.m. PST |
I believe BME's "zombie project" is on the front page as "All Things Zombie". He's been touting it on Frothers. |
| Norscaman | 27 Mar 2005 8:51 a.m. PST |
Soldat, don't you have a contract? I hope you did not pay without one. |
| stumer | 27 Mar 2005 8:58 a.m. PST |
Funny, I didn't think that "Ed-the-2-Hour-Wargames-Guy" was BMEr's "Sockpuppet"! Unless you'd like to back that up ttauri with some facts, you may owe them an apology... |

I thought the Soldat fluff was about 80-90% good, with the other 10-20% just a bit muddled. If the rest was fixed it might have been a good basis for a game. The rules themselves needed work. Is BME actually making minis for this 2Hr Wargame deal? (I know, stupid question - make? vat iz dat?) I saw that Bj (aka BME) was making a of himself on the Frothers site again. I hope Ed doesn't get burned. |
| Rotorvator | 27 Mar 2005 11:04 a.m. PST |
Sorry to hear it didn't work out, but somehow I'm not surprised. And not just because BME was going to do the sculpting. |
| stumer | 27 Mar 2005 11:10 a.m. PST |
I wondered why the cover of that looked like everyone was a zombie, hope Ed didn't pay too much for the art. But I think my comment wasn't too far off, considering the only thing that "BJ" provided was a cover and "some interior" art. He isn't credited for making minis, adding input to the rules, and his dealine is WAY past when he said he'd have 18 new zombie minis done, so my opinion of this "person" remains that he is only a 'poser'. He touted all over TMP his amazing work on Soldat would have to wait to be seen, yet the ubiquitous Mr. Soldat himself says all work was a no show. I also notice that on the Frothers site that "BJ" says this thread is merely sour grapes, but I don't think so... At least I'm not guilty of bragging about Vapor... |
| Franz Meriles | 27 Mar 2005 11:13 a.m. PST |
Im teriibly sorry that soldat had to deal with BME like with all things he touches its only to get a free ride off of it. And soldat paid the biggest price for the way that . |

@Soldat considering legal action? |
| NoNameEither | 27 Mar 2005 12:52 p.m. PST |
This BME is the flame warrior chap right? Why would anybody ask him to sculpt figures, as I recall he has never actually shown any finished work. Or is this somebody else? |
| Soldat | 27 Mar 2005 1:23 p.m. PST |
@ Javelin, I had been working on the rules and did most of the fluff. @ byram1 that depends on whether or not he pays me back. I will pursue criminal charges against him for mail fraud via postal service & attorney General if not repayed in full. @ everyone else thatnks for the condolences Dave |

"I have killed this project due to the lack of the sculptor, aka Big Mean Elf, BME, Joseph Byrd, darkbrotherjoseph@yahoo.com, Brother Josephs Forge." I thought Soldat was a set of rules? Was BJ writing too? I thought you were going to pay to use Shockforce as an engine. I'd love to see the work you've done on the rules. As a rules writer I can't understand how not having sculpts done would even affect the rules. For the benefit of stumer, franz, and the rest I've had dealings with BME as well. Lets' see. 1 - He took on a commision with a deadline for artwork. 2 - He took NO MONEY up front nor did he ask me for any. 3 - He showed me pictures of work in progress. 4 - He took on additional work half way through the job. 5 - He completed all of it, sent it to me, then got paid. Let's see. Same BME but different results. Hmmmmm. All Iknow is I dealt with him, he was professional, punctual and did good work. As for comments on the cover art, well let's see you do better. I am always looking for artists. As for sculpts for ATZ. Well, that's in his court. We've talked about some ideas and he's starting work on them but he is doing them on his own and not by by my commission. As for Soldat paying the biggest price. Yeah right. Scuplts have nothing to do with the rules. Get a clue.Rules and minis are different. If you want help with the rules (sorry, I'm not going to rewrite Shockforce) just let me know. It amazes me how many people think some cash and a few ideas is a game. I'm not talking about Soldat, but others I've met in the hobby. All I'm saying is I worked with BME got more than I paid for and got it on time.
Ed Also, Dave if you want to talk about selling those sculpts or working on rules let me know. I'm easy to find. ed@twohourwargames.com
|
| Soldat | 27 Mar 2005 2:15 p.m. PST |
Ed, If I had the sculpts I would really consider selling them. lol. The rules themselves went through a myriad of changes I would have considered licensing the Shockforce rules if I would have had some sculpts in hand but BME has been playing the avoidance game for almost six months. This was supposed to be a partnership but it didn't work out. I will have to check the rules out and see how they lay. I would be happy to work with you on them. My time now is mostly been my job. Dave |

Strange, I've been part of the BME zombie thing and wondered why it had all gone quiet - if the game makes it, and htey use it, the cool new way of handling flamethrowers was me ;-) |

"You mean the Evil Pixie is still wiggling his wand around?" If you picture BME nekkid, the above sentence has a whole new meaning :-P |
| Turtle | 27 Mar 2005 6:44 p.m. PST |
Regardless of what really happened, if it's true that BME has your money and hasn't paid up, you should already be preparing a case against him, especially if he's not answering your calls. However, why in the world did you pay upfront for non existant work? Frankly I haven't followed this whole BME fiasco, but honestly I think there were a lot of mistakes all around. |

@soldat good to here, and again sorry for all this i mean its just wrong.... the nerve of some people |
| stumer | 27 Mar 2005 7:24 p.m. PST |
Say Ed, you don't have to take Soldat's word for it, just ask Dave Pinnick of Doppelganger USA (AKA Dances With Words here)... Or perhaps you might check out the records here to see where he claimed to be working on at least 18 (or more) 'street' zombie minis due to be completed by the end of January 2005. TMP link This was a long thread here that I asked him personally to put his sculpts where his keyboard was, and after getting flippant he finally set that goal for himself. Unfortunately his posts have been removed, so it makes little sense, but if you look at the quotes in the posts you will get the idea. Before that he made the abrupt announcement that everyone would need to wait until January to see all of his work on the delayed Soldat game... But Soldat never made the 1st announcement, I think that it was inappropriate for him to do so, and I think that the BMEr jumped the gun. His reaction was as if his part was done, the sculpts in the hands of the manufacturers, and it was being held up by someone else. He crowed that we'd all see he was full of more than smoke when his awesome work debuted. Before he was banished from TMP for at least a year (if not more) there were a lot of things said by Joe that never saw the light of day. Beyond the way he grated on people’s nerves here, he added very little to the content on TMP. If you’re satisfied with the Bro* job he gave you then I guess that is all that matters (*Brother Joseph, that is.) I have seen worse cover art, but I have also seen better on fanzines sold at Star Trek Conventions, or in their art shows for that matter (consider checking one out at a convention sometime!) If you believe as I do, and the rest of the professional publishing industry, that a cover sells a book more than anything else does please take the following criticism that the two females pictured on your cover art have the same vapid stares as the zombies reaching for them. The lay out is as amateurish as the execution (in my humble opinion.) I think that it takes away from the game by dragging down the quality perceived by the consumer, and may be overlooked because it makes the game look unprofessional. I am glad that you are genuinely happy with what you bargained for, and that your results were far different from others. But please remember that you are only one success story among many tragic ones here. I wish you all the best of luck with this endeavor. |

FWIW - I don't think the cover art is very good either. I can't do any better but as the man said "A man's got to know his limitations". |
| Ed the Two Hour Wargames guy | 27 Mar 2005 9:13 p.m. PST |
Stumer-Nice post. Well thought out. As for the layout, well that was my concept. No offense taken. Everyone has their opinions and welcome to them. Time will tell. Ed |
| Ed the Two Hour Wargames guy | 27 Mar 2005 9:16 p.m. PST |
BTW - The cover with the story blows chucks. I was messing with the lighting ans washed some stuff out. Also the two females being reached for are Zombies. Ed |
| stumer | 28 Mar 2005 6:14 a.m. PST |
I didn't know zombies were allowed to play with guns. So who on the cover is not meant to be a zombie? |
| Marquis | 28 Mar 2005 7:12 a.m. PST |
Er...contrary to what has been previously stated, Brother Joseph (AKA BME) does indeed post on Frothers. Whilst I would not go so far as to say he was a pillar of the community, I think the fraze... "but when even the Frothers people can't stomach him... well, that probably says it all. I think he's one of the reasons we even *have* a Dawghouse!"...is rather harsh. He is welcome to post, and has (occasionaly) added something to the topics in question. On the other hand, the reason you have a "Dawghouse" is because Bill can't trust most of you to maintain a little decorum, where as over at the Frothers board we kind of expect you to indulge yourselves somewhat. The Dawghouse is due to many, not one! |
| Marquis | 28 Mar 2005 7:12 a.m. PST |
Stumer - Day of the Dead. That's where your Zombies get their shooting rights from! |
| stumer | 28 Mar 2005 7:30 a.m. PST |
Been a while since I saw "Day of the Dead". Is that the one with the scientist who keeps a pet zombie he calls "Bub"? Is there a heirarchy in the zombies? |
| Ed the Two Hour Wargames guy | 28 Mar 2005 8:12 a.m. PST |
The shooter is not a zombie. She also has seen many zombies and is meant to project a "oh hum" attitude which she does. She's not a silly little scared person. In ATZ Zombies can be an everyday occurence so familiaity breeds contempt. We saw this happen in our playtests. People tend to shrug off Zombies as no bug deal until we got killed by taking them for granted. Her attitude is dead on. The rest are zombies and in ATZ none of them can fire guns. Or drive. :) I'd lve to sit here and debate the cover, artwork, etc. but we both know it is being graded on the artist not the work. |
| Ed the Two Hour Wargames guy | 28 Mar 2005 8:15 a.m. PST |
Darn computer or maybe just sleepy fingers!Sent too soon. "I'd love to sit here and debate the cover, artwork, etc. but we both know it is being graded on the artist not the work" Anyway whether you play the game or just burn the cover ATZ will give you hours of fun! :) Ed BTW - This reminds me of when Guns and Girls came out. Anyone remember that bruhaha? |
Dances With Words | 28 Mar 2005 8:19 a.m. PST |
Personally, I liked the 'art'...partially 'poser' or whatever...it's more than I can do...and I've seen a lot of poser, etc art on various sites...that I simply 'enjoy' and not analyze to death. If Ed is happy, that is ok...If the other 'Dave/Soldat' can get his masters and work out something with THW, that is good too. As for all the 'frothing'...here and on Frother's forum...I'm going to 'steer clear' of it...We all have our mistakes and failing...ALL of us...and 'life is what happens when you make plans'... BJ has called me at least twice...wanting to talk about 'things'...over last few months/half-year...and it was a 'polite' conversation. I just said 'no' to any propositons/ideas that involved me doing anything for/with him...or agreeing to anything or providing any funds, technical/molding/casting support, etc. I listened and wished him well...(since it was his nickel/phone call), but I agreed to NOTHING. Nor will I. No rancor, no bitterness...no more 'name-calling' etc...with anyone or anything...I don't have the 'heart' or health for it... I 'do my thing' at our EBAY store/auction now, (though new IRS stuff may even 'kill' that...taxes for whatever county the person is buying from differ, etc??? say whot???)...and sell my lovely wife's jewelery, MaxJapan toys and collectibles, new and existing stock from old DGUSA and excess figures/painted figures, and more...from Elaine... No muss, no fuss...what you see is what you get/set prices and shipping....and no 'middlemen' or depending on others for what we have to sell. I wish Dave/soldat? and Ed and BME/BJ all 'well' in their endeavors...as I do everyone else on this board and Frothers...life is too short to spend it 'torqued off' at everyone. Personally I'd rather NOT ever have to resort to legal action...(as the attorneys seem to be the only ones to really 'win'...in the end)...but the chips will fall where they may. Well, it's time to put on my 'rose-tinted glasses' again...and get back to the 'real world'...still have masters to finish, wim and then mold/cast for our ebay store...so stay tuned! Carpe' keeponkeepingon'um, DWW... |
| stumer | 28 Mar 2005 8:26 a.m. PST |
I cannot speak for anyone's opinion but my own, and that is that I was non-plussed by the cover. It looks like it was drawn on a computer using stock 3D models with purchased software and tweaked, but I was not impressed by it. The proportions are out a bit (not that you don't expect to see top heavy models on covers today), and their expression looks blank, but if that's what you wanted then the effect was achieved. The important thing is that you as the publisher are happy with it, not someone who might be interested in buying the rules, right? |
| Zaphod Beeblebrox | 28 Mar 2005 8:39 a.m. PST |
Heh... too much to read... Who would have thought that those figures would never be seen... Hmmm. |
| maximusrex | 28 Mar 2005 10:12 a.m. PST |
Just to add in, I don't like the art either. Could I do better, probably, with the same software Bj used, definately, but if your happy with it Ed, cool. Personally I think it takes away from the rules, because the cover art is lame, therefore it follows the rules are. I'm not saying that they are I don't know, and I'll never find out because I'm turned away by the cover art. I think that is what others were trying to say, but again if your happy with the artwork. You'd have been better off pictures of minis fighting it out. Also the blue haired mohawk looks an awful lot like an old Cramp's album cover, come to think of it the cover art from the Misfits' Earth A.D. would have made an awsome cover shot . Again Ed Not saying the rules are bad or goodjust that I'm a lost customer due to bad caver art. Just my two centavos. |
| Ed the Two Hour Wargames guy | 28 Mar 2005 10:43 a.m. PST |
It is what it is. If you choose not to play a great game because of issues with the cover artist more power to you. Guess that means DBA is a bad set of rules and 40 K is a good set. :) Ed |
