1st Corps Skythians, Early Sarmatians and Saka.
Simon recently finished painting these and added them to the website.

Great looking figures.

Question though, should their armour, horse and man, be metal? Should it not be lamellar, leather, something non-metal?

I painted my Old Glory Sarmatians with leather horse armour, and they looked ok, but metal would probably have looked better. Non-metal felt more correct though. Thoughts?

My understanding was that the material varied, with horn being common, but also leather and metal.

But metal is nice and shiny and looks great in photos. But yes a mix of horn, leather and metal would probably be right.

Nice looking figures. I have always liked 1st Corps but found the figures a little small compared to 28mm ranges.

How do these guys compare in size to say Aventine or Crusader? Was thinking they may be handy as Sarmatian allies of Mithridates or even as Pontic nobles.

Those look very good!

1st Corps Ancients are approx 26mm toe to eye so not sure they'd mix in the same unit a Aventine etc. If used in a separate unit i can't see a problem.

Thanks – have included some of their Carthaginians in a 'mixed' cavalry unit. The Aventine trumpeter I used is certainly a big boy!
