Vlararesh paused just long enough to see the results of his effort take flight. As Traumire scooped two of the beastmen into its mouth the Slaaneshi lord decided he had seen enough and followed the Minotaurs through the realm gate, a slight smile on his face, invisible under the full helm he wore.

Stormclouds had gather here too. The shield was down on both sides of the realm gate. He could see the lightning crackling from cloud to cloud and now it struck down leaving a burning ring and Stormcast Eternals in its wake.

These first strikes were only the vanguard. More would be coming, they would not leave this realmgate unguarded. It was time to flee.

Seeing their lord leaving the field, the rest of the army followed suit. Or tried to, many of the warriors found determined armoured warriors in their path.

The Lord Relictor knew his striking force would not be enough to catch and destroy all the boot-liking minions of the Hiding God but he hoped he could at least slow them down enough for more reinforcements to arrive. He ordered his Judicators to block the path of the marauders, while he threw Liberators into positions to block the Lord and the champions.

He moved to slow the armour-clas slaves to darkness.

The Liberators were both swarmed almost instantly. Foul hermaphroditic daemons leaped on one of the units, their claws savagely biting through armour as they gave better than they got.

The Chaos spawn were in between the other Liberators and
Vlararesh and latter tried to cut their way through.

The marauders flowed around the Judicators who never even had a chance to loose their arrows. Their lithe movements and quick attacks combined with the heady perfumes they were wearing was enough to distract the archers and cut little nicks in their armour.

More beastmen poured through the realmgate and followed their larger cousins in their flight.

More Daemonettes were summoned by the Chaos sorcerer to aid in his flight, they rushed past the other daemonettes, who were cutting down Liberators right, left and center and poured into the fight with the Lord Relictor.

As the Chaos champions escaped the immediate area of the Realmgate their followers sliced down the van of the Sigmarite force. The Lord Relictor went down beneath the hammers and swords of the Chaos Warriors while the Retributors cleared the fighting of the Daemonettes only to be brought down by the ever quick Herald of Slaanesh.

With the enemy slaughtered around them the forces of Chaos fled to plan new excesses for the future.

Every time I look that an AoS battle report it looks like I am looking at a Warmachine battle report.

That is what GW has turned WFB into.

A Warmachine clone

It actually looks a lot like a 40K game to me. Usually the games of Warmachine I've seen have many fewer figures on the table.

40K seems to have been doing a lot better than WHFB. So it would seem like AoS was a good idea.

Mithmee,

With all due respect, I would say that AOS battle reports look like AOS battle reports! The game has its own unique lore and unique storyline, which has nothing to do with Warmachine.

I think calling it a Warmachine clone is really selling it short.

Personally, I think what Pictors is doing with these battle reports is showing how AOS was always intended to played! Those obsessive competitive statistic nuts on Youtube constantly trying to tweak 8th edition, and trying to create a new 9th edition now so they can find ways to win games before they've even begun, and complaining all the while that the game stinks as they try to win at all costs.

That's not Warhammer. They are missing out on the absolutely best stuff that a fantasy game like this has to offer. When I watch a competitive battle report, there is absolutely NO flavor, there is NO sense of fantasy or wonder. There's nothing but explanations of all the stat-numbers that trail behind a miniature. You are left with a sense of why do they even bother using miniatures at all??? Why not just use marbles for miniatures and use a plain hex board with no terrain if you're going to suck all the life out of the game?

Pictors is doing it right. He's telling a story first and his games flow around that story. GW has always said that they're games were about the story first and winning or losing second. Amen.

Great battle report well told!
I am also a wargamer who does not really find any interest at all in the look of AoS but i think any fantasy gamer would enjoy your game with the story behind it.
