"Armed attackers abducted five Polish seamen from a cargo ship in Nigerian waters, Poland's government said Friday. Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said the five, including the captain and three officers, were abducted Thursday night from the ship Szafir. A further 11 crew members who barricaded themselves inside the ship were safe and in contact by phone, he said. The Polish EuroAfrica company, the ship owner, said the ship was "attacked by armed pirates from two boats, some 35 nautical miles off the Nigerian coast."…" Full article here link Pirates again!. That is a shame. I hope the crew get rescued safely, and that the pirates get the usual 17th and early 18th Century treatment. Of course, they've been predicting this, and there have been a few incidents on that side of Africa for a few years now. Hmmmm, I wonder what their motivation, and/or group affiliation could be? I also wonder if this incident will be the sequel to the Captain Phillips movie? |

Bad choice of a nation to with. When the perpetrators are identified, I wouldn't want to be them. |

Their Niger River Delta Pirates ,oil robbers and such ,there are many groups. Besides the Nigerian Navy ,the Nigerian Govt., have employed over 30 Privateer Companies w/ their own boats to prevent this . This has been a problem for the last decade. |

Sounds like GROM will be making a visit to Nigeria soon. |

Yes, I recall seeing a TV show about a mercenary group hired to provide some protection of the coastal fishery there, and to fight pirates and others as well. It was an interesting show. Too bad it got cancelled. The mercs had a challenging time with getting and maintain equipment in country, and being on the water, but it appeared to be even more dangerous when in port, due to various criminal gangs and factions there. My guess is the cameras only added to the intrigue for the locals, so continuing on with the show probably was just too dangerous to do.. |

I doubt it will stop until pirates are handled in the 18th century tradition |

More Pirates … and yet very few can/want to arm crews, etc. … Because of poorly crafted maritime laws, and many other bad decisions. As 14Bore noted … even today, there are some old school remedies. The only good pirate is a dead pirate, yes ? It would be hard for pirates in those little boats to survive a good amount of MG, GL, SA, RL, etc., firepower. ARRRGH ! |
