Looking thru some of my books on the War of Spanish Succession, I've noticed the Dutch Regiment Els. In one of my uniform guides, it states they wore red coats. Can anyone tell me about this regiment, were they a foreign regiment (Swiss perhaps)? AnythUNGA more on their uniforms? Thanks so much! |

PAR, This might give you a leg up. Through the wayback machine I have the Regiment van Els (Col. Emond van Els) which was formerly known as Regiment van Heeckeren. The page lists the officers during particular periods and the better known engagements. Use Google to search the particular battles (Tongeren is well covered). The sources at the bottom of the page are interesting and in particular the Tinnen Tafelronde which is the Dutch Foundation of Model Soldiers. They have a Facebook page and just may be the source to answer your question. link Cheers, |

They were Dutch, part of Gelderland's contingent during the WSS. Red coats with white cuffs, red leggings. According to Hall. |
