What was your most satisfying hobby-related purchase of this year, so far?

sneakgun25 Nov 2015 2:21 p.m. PST

Frostgrave, I bought one copy, showed some people how to play…..now my local game shop can't keep on the shelf. We have several active campaigns and I just recieved my copy of Liche Lord…..

Ney Ney25 Nov 2015 2:48 p.m. PST

Late to the party…….but Lion Rampant. Played so much medieval this year!!

Sundance25 Nov 2015 2:54 p.m. PST

Cthulhu Wars.

Winston Smith25 Nov 2015 4:07 p.m. PST

I really enjoyed painting King's Mountain backwoodsmen wearing Highland bonnets. It may be a rather unique AWI Loyalist unit and was a lot if fun to paint.
I am also enjoying painting his Continentals as shabby red coat Loyalist. They're on the table right now.

DontFearDareaper Fezian25 Nov 2015 4:16 p.m. PST

Kings of War for me.

Ragbones25 Nov 2015 4:52 p.m. PST

The Battle of Churubusco and Shores of Tripoli playsets by Barzso. The buildings will be used to help fill out my 54mm Texas Revolution and Mexican-American War projects. If only I could find a set of Barzso's Pirate Fortress walls.

cavcrazy25 Nov 2015 4:58 p.m. PST

I got a lot of Sash & Saber ACW this year, they paint up beautifully and come in a variety of poses. I am almost done with my Confederate forces and can't wait to get them to a table.

Neil Thomas' One Hour Wargames plus Armies in Plastic's AWI figures to play it with.

Pictors Studio25 Nov 2015 10:54 p.m. PST

Lion Rampant has revitalised medievals for us.

Norrins26 Nov 2015 6:44 a.m. PST

Pulp Alley & Frostgrave. They are my two main staples now.

SpuriousMilius26 Nov 2015 8:54 a.m. PST

I got several dozen Graven image figures from Hoka Hey Wargaming; I filled the gaps in my GI Elizabethan Irish & started a new genre-"Weird World War II"-with the GI "Gotterdammerung" line. I ran 2 WWWII con scenarios this year. The miniatures are very distinctive & easy to paint. Mr. Alan Rudd (Hoka Hey's owner) is an excellent vendor.

jambo126 Nov 2015 10:58 a.m. PST

My 10mm Pendraken AWI figures and my Baccus 6mm Mmarlburian are my best buys and both came late in the year.

boy wundyr x26 Nov 2015 11:28 a.m. PST

I've been trying to think what this may be, and I don't think I have a single answer, I've bought a lot of cool stuff. If I had to pick a single thing, I guess I'd go with 1/288th Sikorsky-16s (WWI plane), for some unknown reason I like 'em a lot, and a guy on Shapeways agreed with me and made a model.

For me, Black Hussar SYW figs. Also discovered Kallistra and Van Dyke 10mm WWI minis. For scenery, GHQ's Church and way too much model railroad scenery items (trees , fences, castles, farms, etc.) to describe in detail.

T-54/55s
T-72s
S-Tanks

Looking forward to getting them into battle, soon.

Slightly left field maybe :) but for me the purchase and building of a 4 metre by 4 metre insulated shed with electrics in my back garden which should be completed on Monday.
I can't wait for the first game out there!

Lion Rampant was the best purchase of 2014 for me. First third of the year was spent purchasing more figures for it.

Since may it has been All Quiet on the Martian Front.

ViscountEric02 Dec 2015 11:46 a.m. PST

Frostgrave and the Osprey games are on my list to Santa.. er, my wife.

That I've actually used? A whole bunch of Windsword Egyptian terrain. My daughter's a 6-yr old Egyptologist in the making and demands the Sphinx head on the table, regardless of setting.

My best purchase? My Reaper Bones III pledge. It might be my best purchase for next year too, as a I keep adding more to the pledge manager with each paycheck. Sometime in 2017 will be an awesome Frost Giant vs Mouseling game…

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP03 Dec 2015 5:33 a.m. PST

Hard one, I really enjoyed painting calpe Napoleonics.

But i have to say warfare NYW and a specially GNW figures. I will have painted close to 100 figures from warfare when done with my current unit, and in less then a month and a half.

Borderguy19012 Dec 2015 9:41 p.m. PST

Bolt Action. Just going over skirmish WW2 has reignited my gaming painting passion. Plus, my boy is interested so it's a win/win. More game time with the boy.
