All, The last set (so far, at least) of troops for Modern Africa are my Rebel Minis Chinese Infantry. Not sure why I bought Chinese infantry, didn't really fit into any plans that I had, but then it hit me: these guys can serve as UN troops in my Modern Africa setting (not representing Chinese forces, just some nameless, faceless "UN" troops. Maybe.). The Rebel Minis Chinese Infantry is a pretty good pack, with 21 guys in seven different poses (I'm loving the large number of different poses per pack). They're all in helmets, and don't have much in the way of gear. Also, they are all armed with the same 'bullpup'-type rifle, which is my only real complaint. I wish there were some with SAWs/LMGs and some form of AT weapon, but now would be the time to inform everyone that Rebel Minis does a separate Chinese Heavy Weapons set. In any case, for my use as UN peacekeepers, they are good with only rifles.
So far I have 21 blue helmeted UN infantry, 27 African Rebels with 4 Foreign Special Forces 'advisers,' 27 African Government infantry with 4 European 'Security Contractors,' 16 French Foreign Legion troopers, and 14 guerrillas/ mercenaries/paramilitaries (Battlefront Vietnam-era SEALS). Not sure when they'll see the table though… To see more pics, please check the blog at: link On a positive note, tonight I finished up the basing on my 15mm Flytrap Factory USMC and Brit Marines, and I received my Elhiem 20mm troops, got them cleaned up and glued to sticks so I can prime them. More to come. V/R, Jack |

Nice! In fairness, the bullpup-style suggests French or Chinese, which are among the most likely peacekeeping contributors in the near future. So it seems like a great use of them! |

Hey Jack, The heavy weapons pack does have RPGs, a sniper, and heavy machine gunsm but no SAWs or grenade launchers. Although, the Chinese use a variant of the QBZ-95 as their SAW. It's a bit bigger and has a longer barrel and is called the QBB-95. link I love these figures, but I wish the line was more complete. Mike said he would get around to them one day. However QRF has a complete line of Chinese for sale that has the QBB and has the grenade launcher. link The big problem with the Chinese is that nobody really does their vehicles. I know Geoff at QRF will get around to them so they are very much on my back burner too. The Chinese do have a lot of financial interests in Africa and have deployed troops there. So it's not out of the question that China might send real combat troops there in the future. |

Thanks guys. I'm good on the heavy weapons, as the UN shouldn't be doing too much anyway, right? ;) In any case, I think they're sufficiently generic enough to say they're UN troops from the African Union, or Malaysia or Pakistan, if necessary. V/R, Jack |

Yeah, the figures are pretty versatile and scenarios involving China aren't hard to imagine. |
