I do not own the Warmaster rules but do have the rule set from the Battle of the Five Armies game. The question I have is about the number of figures on a 20mm X 40mm base. GW figs came in strips, but some 10mm companies have loose figs. Did the rules say any thing about the number of infantry figs mounted on a base? Are four archer figs too few? I look forward to your help. |

HI You can uses any number of figures on a base. I like a full base to give the large army feel. |

The size and orientation of the base is important to the rules. The number of figures on the base is NOT important to the rules. You only need worry about the aesthetics. See my Barbarians on my blog using Pendraken figures. 8 or 9 individual figures to a base where if they were GW they would be two strips of probably 6 to 8 figures each. link |

Yep. Entirely your preference. Only the size and orientation of the base are important (infantry have a wide frontage, cavalry have a narrow frontage). For the record, though, in WMA, cavalry generally have the same wide frontage as infantry, though certain "shock" ecxeptions exist, and pikes can have a different orientation as well. But for BO5A and standard WM, the orientation is as above. |

I agree with the others: it makes no difference how many (or few) figures you put on a base. That said, four 10mm figures on a 40mm wide base will look pretty thin. But if it looks okay to you, go for it. |

To add to the general consensus, I cut the strips of my Bretonnian knights in half so I could put 3 knights on a base in wedge formation. This both gave more of a charging look to them & increased my number of units by 1/3. |
