Are there any scenario books available for ACW riverine actions or online?

Ships Versus Shore: Civil War Engagements Along Southern Shores and Rivers by Dave Page is a good start.

Trent's Reach, the last battle has loads of ironclads. But most of the Confederate ironclads spend the battle aground waiting for high tide and the Union CO keeps his distance. Not like what gamers would do with such fleets.

Nice link.

Divided Waters by Ivan Musicant is a good source.

The scenario booklet of the board game Shot and Shell (a re-vamp of Yaqunito's Ironclads) has 20+ scenarios/mini-campaigns. I've got a spare copy I'm willing to part with (UK only.

Billy Fish,

I might indeed be interested and am in the UK. Presumably there are maps in the book which could be converted to the table-top? Are the scenarios all riverine actions?

Alan,

There is a fairly large hex map (in four sections) which is referred to for scenario set-up. I'd say the scenarios are fairly evenly split between the rivers, the Gulf, and the east coast blockade/coastal attacks. There are extensive rules for combined operations.

"Thunder along the Mississippi-The River Battles that Split the Confederacy" by Jack D. Coombe is a very good for scenarios. Some period maps (not very detailed).

If you can get your hands on a copy of the old Avalon Hill game "Ironclads" you can get some pretty good ideas. I have both the original game and the expansion set. Alas, I am old enough to have bought it new.

It was a Yaquinto game – I'm old enough to remember :-)

Cloudy – you are right. Since we have already established I am old, I don't believe any further discussion is necessary. grin
