We recently had a 28mm AWI game at the club using the popular Maurice rules. These are card driven and provide an entertaining days gaming.
More pics and a report can be found on our Blog here- Link Thanks for looking. |

What a lovely river! The Bronx River doesn't look that good today, except where it goes through the Bronx Botanical Garden. |

Fantastic looking game, quite inspiring. Also liked the few glimpses of that wonderful freeze on the wall behind you. |

Thanks for the comments. The club meets in the Clock room of the Blagdon Hall stately home estate so there are one or two nice bits and pieces knocking around!!! |

Very Nice…I'm working on this scenario using Black Powder right now too in prep for Historicon. SFC Retired |

Thanks Gents. The terrain boards belong to one of our new members and he keeps them at the club premises. It's what can be achieved when you're retired! SFC I'll keep an eye out for that in any Historicon reports i see. It should be fun with Black Powder also. Mick |

Very, very well done to all concerned. Having seen too many 28mm H&M games recently that were slug fests between two opposing "figure traffic jams", can I say how good it was to see a game played on a table big enough to give large battalions room to manoeuvre and enough space for some real linear tactics to be adopted. |

S M That is something we try to achieve with all of our all day Saturday games which usually allow us 8 hours of play once everything is set up. It makes so much difference to the enjoyment of the game. Thanks to everyone for the comments, they really are appreciated and there will be plenty more games to come over the next few months. |

I bought the Maurice rules set to use with our clubs 15mm AWI armies but was put off because their doesn't seem to be a 'brigade' structure as such with the command system. Do you have to pay for the 'personalities' to become brigade commanders? I had a run through but it seemed to me that the CinC is running around all over the place trying to hold everything together. I hope you can enlighten me because it looks to be a lovely card-driven game which I really want to use with our AWI figures. Absolutely storming looking game BTW. |

The standard 'Maurice' rule system uses 'forces' instead of command structure like brigades. I think this is because the game is 'scale-less' – a unit can represent anything. Our club 'tweaked' Sam Mustafa's game a bit (or maybe quite a bit!) to suite our 1-20(ish) scale battalions and to fight larger battles. We found 'Maurice' to be so well designed that it is certainly robust enough to tweak without breaking it. Our 'Maurice' house rules can be found here on our club website: - link |

So, can you give us all a sense of how long this game played, start to finish? And how leisurely was the pace of play vis-a-vis how did that impact the total time of the game, a very relaxed and jovial game lasting longer than a hard and intense game (prefer the former of course) generally? Agree, very nice looking game. Though I'll admit, except for the hill, the terrain seemed a bit flat but sometimes we have to use what is available. |

I'd say more the relaxed and jovial type with a couple of food breaks along the way. It could probably be done and dusted in 4-5 hours i would guess. |
