Hi folks!

I'm trying something that I haven't done before – painting makeup. I'm usually painting for wargaming and military themes, so this is pretty new for me. I'd like to ask for some tips and tuts for making maidens fair and ladies lovely! For a little reference, I was inspired by the artwork of Pathfinder's Winter Witch:

Snowflakes aside, her skin is pretty pale, although has a little tint of blue. There's a lot of purple in the makeup around her eyes as well.

How would you replicate makeup on a mini and make it look 'realistic?'

Study the work of Marike Reimer.

Less is more. Very thin ink, for example. At that size, you want to give the impression of makeup, not the exact copy of makeup. At 1:1, makeup is generally most effective when you don't notice it. On a mini it's really easy to overdo the makeup.

I have a Micron 005 pen in a pinkish lipstick sort of color that I use on females. Its OK; I've seen directions (somewhere) that call for painting the lips, highlighting them, then putting a tiny white dot, or perhaps a thin line in her case, on the part of the lip that would catch the light. That, Alas! is far beyond my skill level. One thing I've been meaning to try is using a Micron 005 black pen to do the upper edge of the eye; hopefully this would give them a mascara look.
