… losses for terror group as Russia's heavy bombing blitz enters its third day.

"* Russian jets flew more than 100 combat sorties in Syria on Thursday
* Followed on from 126 sorties flown by Russian military on Wednesday
* Bombs targeted headquarters in Idlib, fuel depot and a factory
* Putin ordered an escalation of bombing against ISIS after it was confirmed Russian passenger plane was brought down by an affiliated group

ISIS has suffered a third day of heavy losses as the Russians continued their bombing blitz against the terror group.

Russian jets flew more than 100 combat sorties on Thursday, following 126 the day before, after President Vladimir Putin ordered the military to escalate their campaign in Syria.

His order came after it was confirmed the Russian plane crash in Egypt that killed all 224 people on board was downed in a terror attack, which ISIS-affiliated groups claimed responsibility for…"

No one can now claim that Russia has been avoiding bombing the Islamic State since the start of its campaign … and it appears that Russia is targeting ISIS where it hurts …. their financial lifeline …

Hope this is true and not just propaganda. Of course, the Russians are using some of their biggest heavy bombers. So that should have some effect.

Mako1119 Nov 2015 5:41 p.m. PST

"Russia is targeting ISIS where it hurts …. their financial lifeline …".

Good to see them doing that.

paulgenna19 Nov 2015 6:07 p.m. PST

It is what we should have been doing. Makes you wonder if our philosophy was to grow ISIS versus destroy them.

darthfozzywig19 Nov 2015 6:34 p.m. PST

It is what we should have been doing. Makes you wonder if our philosophy was to grow ISIS versus destroy them.

Seriously. When we all started hitting their HQ and logistics sites the past week, pretty much everyone asked the same question: if you knew where they were, why didn't you do this already?

15mm and 28mm Fanatik19 Nov 2015 6:43 p.m. PST

why didn't you do this already?

Pressure from the Saudis perhaps? Or maybe some of the ISIS oil is bought by the "moderate" anti-Assad rebel factions?

Mithmee19 Nov 2015 7:28 p.m. PST

I want to see the ISIS target being blown to bits.

Lion in the Stars19 Nov 2015 8:29 p.m. PST

Can we start a collection to buy vodka for the Russian bomber crews?

"…if you knew where they were, why didn't you do this already?".

For the answer to that, you'll have to visit the Blau Phez.

Oh Mako, the answer I gave is probably the same as yours. Not worth a trip to the DH at the moment, though. :)

My understanding is that at least some of the smuggled fuel is ending up in Turkey and its also been suggested that the fuel is being smuggled via the regime in Damascus.

Probably a good mini-campaign in fuel smuggling, loads of factions, jittery smugglers, dubious customers and suppliers whose stability is questionable…..

Though an accurate random event table might bring a scenario to premature end if you roll 'air sortie'…

Oh Bugger20 Nov 2015 11:37 a.m. PST

Its worth looking up today's Joe Biden speech he pretty much told it as it is.

I too have heard that some of the Daesh oil was being sold to the Turks. Probably most of it … Again with allies like the Turks … well you know the rest …

Mako1120 Nov 2015 12:25 p.m. PST

Nope, my answer would be a bit more pointed, and direct.

Rumor has it quite a bit of that oil is also going to the Iraqi regime too.

Oh Bugger20 Nov 2015 12:25 p.m. PST

The VP said and I paraphrase there are no moderates and our allies have been financing and arming the Jihadis because they want to fight a war against the Shia and are blinded by hatred of Assad.

Refreshingly honest stuff I thought.

It seems the Turks were/are the oil conduit.

Expect more clarity after the UN Security Council joint declaration shortly to be released.

15mm and 28mm Fanatik20 Nov 2015 12:46 p.m. PST

Don't be too hard on the Turks. When oil is offered at cut rate prices on the black market they're often bought with no questions asked. Anyone would be tempted to look the other way.

Wouldn't surprise me along with the Turks, the Iraqis and others in the region are taking advantage of the cheap Daesh oil. The corruption of much of the regional/local leadership is well known, regardless of whether or not the West admits it.

And even if the Turks are a NATO member, they are still moslems and the West are infidels. Of course not all Turks or moslems feel this way about the West. But it appear the Turks are becoming less secular and more islamist ?

Mako1121 Nov 2015 1:19 p.m. PST

Well, the Turkish chanting during the moment of silence for the Paris victims at the soccer match the other day was telling.

I heard yesterday that the Muslim Brotherhood essentially controls the country there.

You know, the same radical group the Egyptians kicked out of power recently, and/or jailed again.

The only way I'll change my mind about the Turks. Is if they decide to roll 2-3 Bdes across the borded with US/NATO support. And go Daesh hunting. Much easier said than done, I know. With a lot of entanglements, like what would the Syrians, Persians and Russias say about that ?
