battlefront is having a sale, 33% off everthing with capped postage of £5.00 GBP

fingolfen19 Nov 2015 9:48 a.m. PST

… or $10 USD for those of us in the states…

I picked up a few things for a couple of armies I want to do…

… so many armies… so little time… *sigh*

Guess it's time for me to get started on those Italians I always wanted. That or raid the Arab section for Warsaw Pact AFVs in anticipation for Team Yankee.

StaffordGames19 Nov 2015 3:30 p.m. PST

Don't expect to get all of your order anytime soon.

BF stock situation is appalling at the moment with most orders only being approx. 33% fulfilled and this sale will only make the situation worse.

Never mind it being a kick in the b***s for their retailers just before Xmas!

That rather crossed my mind too – great offer for the punters, but that kind of discount for a game with a strong retail presence is rather an invite for it to have a weaker retail presence in future….

Wow, way to suck the air out of your retail channel.

Good luck with those "how many packs of Team Yankee can we sell you" phone calls next month….

Just as an intellectual exercise, can anyone think of an item of news that no wargamer, anywhere, would not be able to whinge about?

McWong7320 Nov 2015 3:28 a.m. PST

I suspect these comments come from flgs owners primarily…could be wrong.

wildphilldude20 Nov 2015 3:31 a.m. PST

i would have thought they sold more through retail stores than they sold direct. so to make this move undercutting all those stores(who they dont allow to discount that much)
perhaps suggests that they are having a bit of cash flow problems(need the money to finish yankee?).

@Navy:

No.

President Johnson once said, if he walked out of the white House and walked across the Reflecting Pool, the headline the next day would be "President Can't Swim!"

Full Disclosure: I am ScaleCreep.com but do not sell FoW.

It's not the sale in itself. Many manufacturers do this. And for FoW besides cash flow there is the obvious marketing gain: you increase your list of customers, potentially drawing people to your web site etc.

It's the timing – just before the holiday shopping season – that raises my eyebrows.

McWong – Stafford is an FLGS owner and FOW stockist, I'm neither, but can certainly see the problem. It's always tricky harmoniously managing direct sales alongside a retail presence (since you're effectively competing with your own customers) but running a deep discount without offering them any way to match it is bound to do damage. For the customer right now, it's a cracker of a deal, but if I was an FOW stockist I'd certainly not be thrilled.

McWong7320 Nov 2015 9:23 a.m. PST

All good guys, just helping put the comments in a different context.

Know the problem well. This sort of supplier flicking the bird to retailers ain't unique to minis!

But yeah, as a punter hard to argue with the prices. Kicking the tyres on ordering several boxes of M48's from the Fate of a Nation line.

Navy Fower Wun Seven20 Nov 2015 3:33 p.m. PST

I'm loving the new BF hard plastic models, so this has pushed me over the edge. I have legions of PSC T34s, which are noticeably smaller than the BF ones. So will repurpose all my PSC ones as T34-76, and have ordered 2 boxes of BF ones for T34-85s. Oh, and a box of ISU-152s and 152 Guns to back ém up! And some of the half price paint sets…

Should keep me busy for a while!

But, yes, am mindful of the need to keep my FLGS in business, so will buy another box of PSC Pz38ts and my copy of Berlin from him…

Does anyone know if orders placed from the EU from the online store are shipped from NZ or from Battlefronts EU presence?

It's fairly important in regards to customs. The sale is great but not if I incur a hefty customs bill when it passes into the EU.

I'd check with them, but my last direct order (some time ago) was shipped from the UK office. Many moons ago that was a problem (I still remember my first ever BF order, for which they charged me a higher "UK" price, that I then had to pay VAT on top of….) but I don't think it's an issue any more – worth checking with them though.
