I commenced my re fight of the Battle of Ligny in June and I have enclosed a few pictures from my first set to illustrate the scene prior to the action and put the events into context.

As at my Waterloo re fight the ground scale is 1mm equals 1 metre and all units have been assigned their original start positions. The buildings and terrain etc are scratch built using Clauswitz and Google earth amongst many other sources.

Many thanks to my friend Thomas Mischak and my long suffering wife, Der Feldmarschall for their help and suggestions during my research and going forward.

General lieutenant Hans Ernst Von Zieten's 1st Corps completes it's deployment in the villages of St, Amand,,St, Amand la Haie and Ligny as the civilians are evacuated.

Feldmarschall Gebhard Lebrecht, Furst Blucher Von Wahlstadt arrives on the field to the delight of his troops.

His Grace the Duke of Wellington confers a little later to offer his ‘conditional' support, up on which the decision to fight is taken.

Timeline 3PM

His Majesty, Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, surveys the Prussian positions from the Moulin Naveau with growing confidence. ‘ It is possible that in three hours the issue of the war will be decided'. ‘The Prussian army is going to be utterly smashed' he states.

Prussian Jager prepare to defend the Chateau De Looz.

Third French Corps, Lieutenant- General Dominique-Rene, Comte Vandamme commanding, commences the attack on St Amand .

8th Infantry Division, under Lieutenant -General Baron Etienne- Nicholas Lefol leads the assault after a rousing speech, to the tune of La Victoire en Chanant.

7th Infantry Division, Lieutenant- General Baron Jean-Baptiste Girard begins to deploy through Le hameau St Amand.

The Prussian grand battery from General lieutenant Hans Ernst von Zieten's 1st Korps begins to engage the French columns.

6th Cavalry Division, Lieutenant-General Baron Antoine Maurin advances towards the Prussian positions at Mont Potriaux, covering the flank of Fourth French Corps as it begins to deploy before Ligny

Terrific Chris. Is this on a blog page of yours? I recognize some old Airfix Waterloo French infantry in there!

Hello,

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments, they are much appreciated.

In answer to Dave, there is no blog . the project is a re fight, rather than a diorama, with the photographs being the record of what went on. I did the same with Waterloo and learnt a great deal in the process. It is my intention to eventually create a blog or web site and I also wish to do Quatre Bras in the future. In the meantime the Ligny battle is now gathering speed as the opposing sides get to grips with each other.

Happy modelling,

Chris

Can you talk about your scenery methods? Looks like maybe a sand table or sand base with flock applied over it in places? Scenic Express super trees? How did you do the stream -- that looks superb!
Thanks for sharing.

Wow lovely work, stunning!!!

C M DODSON19 Nov 2015 9:11 a.m. PST

Hello,

Many thanks again for the kind comments.

The base is a sand table which allows scenic sculpting. This was then dressed with flocks and also cut up sisal from soft sweeping brushes to represent the wheat.

The trees are home made, based on Gaugemaster trees. The streams are acetate sheeting on top of homemade stream beds. The buildings are scratch built based on original constructions where possible.

I am new to the site but am happy to post construction techniques I have used if they will be of use to anyone. Perhaps someone can advise where is best to post them, or do I start a new post in this section?

Ps There are no Airfix French infantry. They are in plastic heaven!

Splendid work! Nice photography, too!

Excellent images – some of them remind of the Croebern diorama, particularly the representation of civilians and wagons etc.
Interested to see how this translates to an actual wargame.

CM – you can post any tutorials in the terrain/scenics board of this site; I would just start each one as its own topic, ie "How to make trees." I would also be happy to host any posts on my blog, if you prefer that method. (www.smallworldproductions.blogspot.com)

Hello, thank you for the information. I have posted details of tree and water construction for my project, with some pictures, in the scenery section.
