Spotted this thread by accident! I still use Humbrol enamels on some of my wargames figures – including some tins of 'Authentic Colours' that I bought in the mid 1970s!
Anyway – in case any of the people in this thread haven't seen it, there is a usefukl table on the IPMS Stockholm website that maps Aumbrol Authentic Colours to their modern equivalents here: link

Humbrol paints have always been good stuff. I have some old tins from the 1980's that are still usable (don't paint with enamels as much).

The only problem over here (USA) is that availability has always been spotty.

When I posted on this thread a few years ago, I said that all of the local hobby shops had closed so the only place I could buy Humbrol paints was in Hobbycraft, a large store, a few miles away.

Earlier this year a model railway shop opened in our village, just five of minutes walk from my house. it has a really good stock of Humbrol paints, and last week reopened after the lockdown, so I am very happy.

When i went back to try humbrol again, they were nowhere near as good as i recalled.
Different colour and nowhere near the coverage.

Someone told me the plant burnt down and they are a different plant, different recipe now.
Of maybe those fumes made me think they worked better.

You're right Andy. I have a Revell Dam Buster Lancaster (purchased using Green Shield stamps around 1975) moulded in black plastic. My dad painted Humbrol straight on, one coat, perfect. No chance doing that with what's in the tin now.

I'm sure I've posted this before, but paint fumes have probably made me a bit gaga.

Also, my wargaming English teacher came from Hull. Quite a few of the kids he taught had parents working for Humbrol and they used to bring him tins as presents on parents evening!
