When did the Royal Marines begin wearing the top-hat looking chapeau and when was it replaced with something else? I have a handful of these guys (models, not real people!) and was wondering what years they would be good for.

thanks

Although not dated, the series of uniforms at this web site link seem to indicate that the top-hat was a Napoleonic era headgear and were replaced by the bell top shako shortly thereafter.

The round hat replaced the tricorn hat in 1799 and remained so until at least 1815. Ref Hamilton-Smith Plate #53 text.
