I'm looking to get back into ACW in 28mm – I really enjoy the painting as much, if not more than the actual gaming- but all the players I know have their forces mounted as 40mm square bases for infantry, 50mm square for cavalry and 60mm for artillery (they mostly play BP). I like the look of the F&F Regimental rules (though I haven't actually played them yet) but want to check from those who play them whether those base sizes would be ok?

Thanks for the help.

We use 2 figures in 28mm per base 40mm x 20mm. If I ever go insane and rebate might look at 40mm x 30mm.

Yes 40mm x 30mm is not crowded. It allows for F&F and four bases will fit on a Volley and Bayonet bases as well if you oversize a little to 3.25 inch width. I know heresy but close enough for me.

We are basing three figures on a 50mm x 30mm base for F&F Regimental. Well spaced out, but looks ok.

We use 3 or 4 figures on a 40x45mm base.

I prefer 40mm (frontage) x 30mm depth, but it can be difficult to get four figures on a base. Went with 40x40mm.
