"At least 26 people are reportedly dead in Paris after an attacker or attackers opened fire on multiple locations on Friday night, as part of what witnesses say is a wave of violence still unfolding across the city. French media say a shooter with a Kalashnikov rifle fired numerous times at patrons dining at a restaurant, Le Petit Cambodge, and then at a concert venue, Le Bataclan, and that he or she is still at large. Police also reported hearing three explosions near the Stade de France, the country's national stadium, which is hosting a soccer game between France and Germany. President François Hollande, who was at the stadium, was reportedly evacuated and is now in an emergency meeting. The stadium is on lockdown. France 24, citing police, said that the attackers had also taken an estimated 60 people hostage at the concert venue, where the American rock band Eagles of Death Metal was playing a show…" See here link Amicalement Armand |

That is horrible. I posted it on the Blue Fez too. We're hearing over 100 hostages at the concert. Apparently, some escaped the shotgun wielding attacker there, who was firing repeatedly into the crowd. It seems multiple, masked gunmen opened fire on people at the restaurant/bar. Reports now are at least 30 dead, in three separate attacks, which all appear to be coordinated. A fourth attack in a shopping mall is unconfirmed. One of the hostages that escaped the concert hall said that an attacker was yelling "this is for Syria", in French. I wonder if all this is connected to the flood of immigrants into the EU? The timing certainly looks bad. My sincere sympathies to all our French allies, and their friends and family. |
| Jcfrog | 13 Nov 2015 4:01 p.m. PST |
60 + deads score near it in emergency. President just declared state of siege all over country, borders closed/ checked. Several running fights still going on, troops coming in from ready force in Paris from south. Not imigrants, recent ones, locally grown types. The poor chaps fleeing will pay the price of course. |
| GeoffQRF | 13 Nov 2015 4:20 p.m. PST |
Timing seems to be off the back of increased air activity by the French Air Force bombing ISIS in Syria. Hearing that a curfew is being imposed, first time since 1944, and all borders shut. As JC says, sadly this will only increase anti-Muslim sentiment in France and make life much harder for the genuine refugees. |
| Mako11 | 13 Nov 2015 4:54 p.m. PST |
There are reports of as many as seven different attack locations now. Apparently they've captured at least one terrorist alive, who is claiming he's Syrian, and was recruited with at least 2 – 3 others by ISIS. If true, that seems to indicate my theory ISIS is "flooding the zone" (the EU), so to speak, with Islamic terrorists, and using the refugee crisis as cover for that. |

From the French TV, all the terrorist, 3 at the concert hall and the 2 kamikaze at the stadium have been killed. |
| Fanch du Leon | 13 Nov 2015 5:21 p.m. PST |
We do not know if all the terrorists have been killed, we do not know how many were they when they began their murders. 3 killed in a concert hall during a show by an American band, policemen horrified saying they have to walk on dozen killed youngsters to shoot the b……ds. We have to stay home, schools and universities closed tomorrow. Too angry to sleep (it's 1 AM here) and can't help to think bitterly about our so called brilliant editorialists or politicians wondering again seriously a few times before tonight if France was really at war, and too often answering not really. Is it clear enough now? |

Bill wrote: "French president has said this will mean war on ISIS. Will this trigger the NATO alliance?" An attack on one member nation is an attack on all. We shall soon see if the member countries have it in them. The fact that the attackers have also targeted an in-progress international soccer match, it certainly stirs the pot! The French authorites sure deserve high marks for their response to the situation. While it may seem a long time for responders to arrive and get to work, we must remember that someone has to first ascertain what has, is and might happen during a chaotic situation and direct efforts. I am glad the US, Britian and others are standing with France during this time of crisis. |

That could be interesting if so. IT might finally and bring the Islamic War home to Europe. We have Eastern Europe involved this time. They're no fans of Islam so it will be interesting to see what Hungary, Romania, et al. will do now. We are cursed to "live in interesting times." |

"* At least 60 people have been killed and several wounded in a series of terror attacks in the heart of Paris tonight * 11 were killed in restaurant shootout on Rue Bichat, close to where Charlie Hebdo shootings occurred in January * Another 15 killed in the Bataclan concert hall where terrorists are said to be holding around 100 people hostage * The terrorists shouted 'Allah Akbar' and 'this is for Syria' as they burst in and opened fire, witnesses have said * French President Francois Hollande declared state of emergency for whole country and shut all of its borders A series of coordinated terror attacks in the heart of Paris have left at least 60 dead and paralysed the French capital with fear. At least 11 were killed in a restaurant shootout and another 15 at the Bataclan concert hall where terrorists are said to be holding 100 people hostage. Five bomb blasts and machine gun fire were heard from outside the concert hall, following reports that police had raided the theatre. Just five miles away, two suicide bombers blew themselves up outside the Stade de France sports stadium where the French football team was playing a friendly match against Germany. French President Francoise Hollande declared a national state of emergency following what he called 'unprecedented terror attacks' and shut its borders with immediate effect." … What we must not allow is for the actions of terrorists, who claim to do so in the name of Allah, be allowed to turn this into a war against Islam. Islam also needs to swiftly reject and distance itself from these indiscriminate attacks on innocent people, but the biggest danger here remains that this will consolidate into the west vs Islam instead of the world against terror. |
| bandit86 | 13 Nov 2015 11:35 p.m. PST |

"here remains that this will consolidate into the west vs Islam instead of the world against terror." To make it clear this is not a west vs terrorist problem. This a world vs Islamic terrorist issue as Russia, China, Thailand, Philippine, etc. all face the same enemy. |
| tbeard1999 | 14 Nov 2015 12:21 a.m. PST |
Geoff-- Islam cannot "distance" itself from these acts for the simple reason that these fanatics were following the explicit commands of their Prophet. (I've hacked through the Koran and the Hadiths and have confirmed this). And his words are considered to be perfect for all time. Good enough for the 6th century, good enough for the 21st century. The challenge for Christians was to actually do what Christ commanded. After centuries of internecine warfare, Christianity had its Reformation. The challenge for Muslims is rather different -- how to *not* follow the plain commands of the Prophet. And since the punishment for such heresy is death, I wouldn't count too heavily on an Islamic Reformation. Also, Islam has no equivalent of "give to Caesar what is Caesar's", so it does not recognize the legitimacy (and desirability) of secular governance. Like it or not, the West is in a war with a savage, intolerant, illiberal ideology. Self-identified Muslim terrorists murder many thousands of people annually in the name of Islam. Pretending otherwise will simply get more people killed. To the French -- link |
| Mako11 | 14 Nov 2015 12:52 a.m. PST |
It's Islamic radicals vs. others. Sweeping the Islamic link under the rug, like so many have tried to do, makes it worse, getting people killed in the process – see Fort Hood as a prime example of what happens when people try to ignore basic facts to be PC. It will be interesting to see who finally steps up to the plate to try to help put these rabid dogs down, once and for all. |

My thoughts and prayers with Paris today. We now know what the refugees are running from. The implications if the bombers are from the Middle East are huge. |
| tbeard1999 | 14 Nov 2015 1:00 a.m. PST |
The "refugees" are, in reality, mostly migrants. It seems insane to me for Europe to continue to welcome hordes of unassimilatable migrants who largely ascribe to a belief system that rejects Western liberal values. Perhaps this attack will make the European political class reconsider their blind, and ill-considered devotion to multiculturalism. Probably not, as these are essentially religious beliefs to the European elites. |
