what is that exactly?..labelled "battery wagon"..is certainly a wagon of the Pontifical Army Artillery circa 1870..i suppose for carrying artillery tools or ammo reserve..but it's quite high..just a couple of horses..but what puzzle me is the curved ladder..maybe a repair facility?…the pictorial stuff for Pontifical Army is quite rare but is closely comparable to French one…is such a small army that also some auxiliary elements like this, if identified, can find some interest in a wargame army
thanks for your help

I suspect that the ladder folds down so that gunners can climb up to get at the contents.

Possibly the curved ladder is for horse fodder?

Usually the battery wagon contained the saddlers' and carriage makers' tools, spare parts, extra harness, and rough materials for fabricating parts.
