This comes up every couple of years…

Is any manufacturer making handcarts yet for WW2 in NWE?

This US one seems to have been everywhere:

British Airborne used these:

and these:

Although available in 15mm & 1/35, I've yet to find any of these suitable for 28mm. Any leads out there?

Just found a German one as well:

I believe Warlord have plans to make British and US ones in 28mm…I'd be surprised if they did n't intend to to do German ones too given their recent Falshirmjager pack…which is very nice BTW; my wife's got dozens of them and is very impressed.

Perry miniatures do a German handcart – it comes in a couple of their different heavy weapons packs

Somebody makes the German one in plastic.

Good to see a couple of options for the German one. The plastic one is a bit small, but the Perry one may fit the bill. Would prefer it empty, though…

Thanks all!

Handcarts are like skips. They don't stay empty for very long! :-)

Tommy2014 Nov 2015 9:44 a.m. PST

True!

Skarper16 Nov 2015 2:05 a.m. PST

Don't immediately discount the Valiant effort [sorry] based on it being labelled as 1/72. It is much larger than that and would probably fit in with 28mm figures.

The IF8 was actually pretty small, only waist high.

Skarper16 Nov 2015 2:09 a.m. PST

I would be tempted to scratch build the US/UK versions if I only needed a few. Essentially a box on wheels with a bar for pulling? The German one is more complex [as we would expect!].

Fred Cartwright16 Nov 2015 4:27 a.m. PST

It doesn't seem that complex. A tubular metal frame, with a sheet metal box inside it. Pressed still wheels. Decidedly low tech. Tiger tank it is not!

Tommy2016 Nov 2015 12:26 p.m. PST

The hard part (for all three, in fact) is coming up with the wheels.

Skarper17 Nov 2015 2:11 a.m. PST

Quite. I think you could find one in a smaller scale and make a mold, then cast them. Adding a liberal dose of mud after painting and the rough edges would be less obvious.

But it's surprising no manufacturer has stepped up.

uglyfatbloke17 Nov 2015 7:21 a.m. PST

I think (see above) Warlord has plans for US and UK carts.

Tommy2017 Nov 2015 8:20 p.m. PST

And, to be fair, 1st Corp did say he'd look into it…

Skarper17 Nov 2015 11:53 p.m. PST

That's true.

And sales could never be massive. It's not something you would see right in the front line so having them on a 28mm tabletop would be odd.

uglyfatbloke18 Nov 2015 5:03 a.m. PST

Maybe not; they were issued to platoons – who often dumped them as soon as they were empty enough that the remaining contents could be distributed around the sections (squads). I certainly want some.

Tommy2018 Nov 2015 12:01 p.m. PST

I'm looking for them, as well as the parachute supply containers, for marking Chain of Command Jump-off Points.
