Thinking maybe we need a board for Team Yankee soon?

While it wears its FoW pedigree proudly, it is a different rules engine and period.

To be honest I'd rather see it stay on the Cold War board – the inevitable pattern we see for "new rules" boards is that they either balkanise stuff as topics that are in no way rules-specific get posted there instead of to the more general "period" board, or more commonly everyone cross-posts everything anyway, in which case really what's the point…? (Additionally I'm sure Bill's said that whenever we do finally see TMP 4.0, there'll be no option to crosspost, in which case the multiplicity of boards is likely to become a real problem….)

Good point, am thinking though it would help keep the inevitable discussions in the one place to help folks find them quicker. So to help discovery.

I'm with Dom on this, plus the Cold War board might help Team Yankee gamers with ideas and suggestions that might otherwise get missed.

Anything really rules specific ought to have Team Yankee in the subject title anyway though, so a simple title search on that will collate it.

I would rather see it stay with the Cold War board as well.

gunnerphil11 Nov 2015 5:45 a.m. PST

Is this an admission that Team Yankee is nothing to do with Cold War?

If is Cold War then why not ion Cold War board. If is something else…

McWong7311 Nov 2015 6:16 a.m. PST

Why a FoW board then, but guys won't take away from good points you're raising.

Leave it on the Cold War board then do a poll to see if needs to have its own board, after it comes out.

Or better still, 6 months after it comes out – once the initial flurry has passed and we can see if there's *sustained* traffic for it….

Agreed.

Yeah, look at a lot of the sub boards….many of them get hardly any traffic/posts now…..If TMP 4.0 ever materializes there will be a lot of cobwebs and dust hippos to get rid of….

So more like "Team Yankee Bored".

I would prefer they stay in the current board for a while. Trying to determine if these rules might be good to play. As many have noted, it is hard to find any modern rules that play well and do not make the Soviets look like clowns.

Great idea McWong, and I stand second to none in my enthusiasm and best wishes for TY, but I agree with Dom that TY business belongs on the Cold War board, with an SOP to cross post to the FOW board.

Besides that way I don't get evil questions poping into my head about the motives of those FOW and TY detractors who visit FOW and TY specific boards to tell us we aren't playing with our toy soldiers properly…

I think it should stay on the cold war board for all the reasons given above. I don't intend playing it, but good discussion on cold war tactics only helps other games. It has thrown up a lot of good discussions, for example the ATGM posts from last weekend.

gunnerphil12 Nov 2015 1:09 a.m. PST

McWong, you ask "why have a FOW board then".' A good point. If the point of the board is to pass information, show nice painted toys, things like that, the why have a little ghetto.

Looking over last few weeks have been lots of questions on FOW board, about the cold war. Lots of answers, including some people might not like. I mean the whole T72 thing. But it of interest to those of us who play other rules

If you want info on Cold War topics lots of people here will give it. But they might not go on a Team Yankee board. So that would be a loss.

By having a separate board for Team Yankee and in my view FOW is a just saying " Na na I can not hear you fingers in my ears" to people who are explaining things, like a novel might not be 100% accurate

Old Contemptibles16 Nov 2015 11:39 a.m. PST

Agree with many others. If it goes to a separate board it will be ignored. Many of the posts which would be good for the general CW boards but they will not see it.

If it goes off on its own then it gets lost. I know I will probably never look at it because I don't play those rules and miss something which applies to any CW gamer. That's why we have game specific forums and Yahoo! Groups.

That is the problem with rules specific boards. Boards should be based on historical periods not rules. I have argued this forever and no one listens.
