Just wanted to get a feel for how the age of Sigma is going. My own club has not seen a single game. A club member bought the box set and we all had a look and we never saw it again. What have you guys found? Are lots of people playing? I have not seen any real buzz around the game after the it first appeared. Is it ticking along or dying a death?

In order to find the box set at my FLGS you have to dig through the dust that has accumulated since the first shipment arrived.

Not as well as the Age of Alpha. Now that was a time of some fine shenanigans…

The two non GW gaming stores left in my area only sell boardgames and reaper figures mostly so it is hard to tell. From what Ive seen on some of the other forums it isnt vary well recieved.

It is being played quite a bit around here. From what I understand from the store owners it is selling as well as WHFB did.

I've seen more games of AoS in the last 5 months or so than of WHFB in the last 6 year.

around here 40k players love it while the fantasy players loathe it

I haven't seen a Mitsubishi Sigma around on the road for ages either.

On the gameplay front I keep track of tabletop miniature game plays on the BoardGameGeek. I've got a geek list with a record of game plays at link

From it you can see that in July the game had a lot of attention coming 4th with 88 plays, but then it keeps sliding further and further down the play list where it is 28th with 7 plays.

True this is a small sample set of wargamers on the geek who bother to log their games so the data isn't perfect but it does show a quick try and then dump amongst the players.

At our club it had one play and neither player had a lot of good things to say (some okay things though) and everyone went back to their other games.

I guess it's having its intended outcome then?

Have yet to see anyone play a game of it.

So I will say that it is quite dead.

My group of 4-6 players switched to it for our almost-monthly Warhammer meetup and have been playing it. It's got a lot of things missing, but we can finish the game, and it was/has been a refreshing change. I don't think any of us bought the box set. Ultimately we will probably switch to another rule set; the question is what.

Our club hasn't seen a game and almost certainly won't. One Stormcast figure has been sighted occasionally, used for other purposes. For the 60% of membership who only play historical or skirmish, it doesn't matter a toss either way. After some whinging, the other 40% who play massed fantasy games have all moved on with their lives and gone to Kings of War. One fellow, for whom competitive 8th was integral to life, is husbanding his rage and bitterness.

I expect that the local gaming shop is selling it well enough to kids, at whom it is really aimed.

Which is all really as you might expect.

I've played quite a few games over the past couple months, but only using general-purpose fantasy armies (undead and Bretonnians). I haven't purchased any of the new figs, rules or boxed sets, and I'm unlikely to (with the possible exception of old re-boxed figs, such as the dryads, that I can use in other settings). I don't like the new style AoS figs.

I get the impression a lot of other "gamers of a certain age" are reacting in a similar way. I have no idea what the under-30s are doing.

In our area almost everyone switched over to Kings of War. There are a few previously 40k only players who play once and while, but it isn't thriving like our KoW community is.
