First reports were that the boxed sets were to have APCs in them, they are mentioned in the product description text(as being included) and the appropriate Unit cards are displayed, but they are missing from the content lists in these pictures….

Did we ever figure out what scale the helo's are?

McWong7305 Nov 2015 8:41 a.m. PST

1/100, or 15mm. Planes are 1/144.

Bummer, just headed to Fall In was hoping to get a look at them there….

OUCH! How much for just the rules? Metal 15mm M1s run @ $9.00 USD each.

PzGeneral05 Nov 2015 10:14 a.m. PST

Somewhere I read the rules are $25. USD Hardback, 120ish pages. Usual fluff and stuff…..

Mako1105 Nov 2015 12:17 p.m. PST

That is a very large disparity in pricing:

Pound is 1.54 USD, so $77 USD

Euro is 1.1 USD, so $72 USD

Americans get to pay the most, at $90 USD

For the second set:

GBP is $115.5 USD = 75 GBP

Euro is $99 USD = 90 Euros

Americans pay $120 USD, respectively

McWong7305 Nov 2015 12:33 p.m. PST

Try turning it into Australian dollars.
Methinks QRF and Khurasan and the like will see a spike in sales shortly.

Old Glory (Command Decision line) too

Mako1105 Nov 2015 12:54 p.m. PST

Yea.

I wish Old Glory would produce some new stuff as well, for the Cold War, especially a 105mm armed M48A2GA2 for the Bundeswehr.

A M-114 would be appreciated as well, to go with the other stuff they offer.

Navy Fower Wun Seven05 Nov 2015 12:55 p.m. PST

Great news! Very excited!

Tgunner05 Nov 2015 7:32 p.m. PST

Anyone else notice that the US Armored Combat Team card in the picture above has a M-26 Pershing? Too bad we didn't have Pershings with Chobham armor and a 105 L7 main gun.

CAG 1906 Nov 2015 2:35 p.m. PST

And also notice that the M901/M163 and BMPs are now missing from the contents list as the OP states. Put them in and the price starts to come to a more reasonable level

PzGeneral06 Nov 2015 4:42 p.m. PST

Rumor….there were issues with the APP models, so in order to make Christmas shopping season, they were removed. But the rumor also said the box prices were adjusted to reflect less vehicles!!

Seems to me Warstore.com had them list at $100 USD each WITH APCs, now they $210 USD without…..

PzGeneral07 Nov 2015 12:09 a.m. PST

APP in above post should be APC…..

zaevor200007 Nov 2015 12:55 a.m. PST

Why oh why didn't they reach out to some veterans to dbl ck things before they released?

M1s in Germany DID NOT HAVE MERDC camo!!!!

M1 platoons were 4 tanks per platoon (not 5). That was J series with the M60 series.

The M1 platoons worked in pairs.
The butter bar (2LT platoon leader) and his wingman.
The Platoon Sargeant (usually and E7 but sometimes an E6(P) and his wingman.

Also Soviet tank companies were 3 platoons of 3 tanks each +1 company commander tank for a total of 10 tanks (in Tank Regiments).

It concerns me that they don't even have the TOEs right. What else is inaccurate???

nickinsomerset07 Nov 2015 2:43 a.m. PST

Zaevor, apparently they have. There has been plenty of discussion here about the game/rules/historical accuracy etc. But it is based on a fictional book, so 8GA and 1GTA are both equipped with T-72, M1s in MERDC etc etc, Soviet MRR platoon commanders will be able to spot for Regt/Div and Army artillery and tactics taught during the period will be irrelevant.

But it is about a game, with plenty of lovely toys on a table, that allows a quick couple of hrs game on a club night or competition.

There are other rules or even a bit of tinkering with the TY rules that will allow one to field historical ORBATs/TO&Es etc.

Tally Ho!

I don't see what the problem people are having with Team Yankie … People seem to forget that the novel is a work of fiction and Battlefront have a great history of producing games based on fiction, so it's a perfect match I say.

furgie08 Nov 2015 12:50 p.m. PST

I'd like to do this in 6mm, I wonder if the cards will be available in the book or by download?

deleted22222222208 Nov 2015 1:07 p.m. PST

Maybe they have 5 M1s in the box to represent 1 tank platoon, & 1 HQ tank. Also maybe they went with the MERDC camo for the pictures and demo models because it shows off better on the box and for display.

Maybe they went with 9 T-72s to balance the two box sets for game purposes.

Navy Fower Wun Seven08 Nov 2015 11:35 p.m. PST

Cards are in the book.

Lots of consultation with veterans. The tanks come unpainted, so no need to throw a track over the paint scheme on the box (about the scheme in question – apparently it varied wildly, with prestocks in olive drab, in theatre runners in NATO scheme, and REFORGERs in MERDC.)

5 tanks represents Coy Commander and 1 platoon.

All M1s were not painted in MERDC

"Quote – I don't see what the problem people are having with Team Yankie … People seem to forget that the novel is a work of fiction and Battlefront have a great history of producing games based on fiction, so it's a perfect match I say."

Team Yankee was authored by an armor officer, who understood the organization, tactics and doctrine of both antagonists. This game is so far from the book and is technically flawed.

In the book Team Yankee was an Armor Company attached to a Mech Infantry Battalion. The Comany was broken into two Teams, Team Bravo was an Infantry Heavy Team, and Team Yankee an Armor Heavy team. The Team was comprised of 2 platoons of M1 MBTs, a section of M901 ITVs from the Battalion anti armor company, and a platoon of M113 equiped Mech Infantry. So, what are the technical errors?

*M113 did not have thermal imaging
*Armor Teams don't have a 4.2" mortar platoon(these are battalion assets)
*LAW doesn't have the same effective range as a SAW
*SAW should be M60 MG in this period (SAW is possible but unlikely)
*WWII FoW lacks over watch so assume that TY does also
*ATGMs are not low ROF, highly accurate direct fire weapons, they are that, but also vulnerable.

So if history is not your thing, and you like to play with big neat toys, yes this is just a game based on fiction, so enjoy. The sad thing is the fiction is much more accurate than the game.

Navy Fower Wun Seven09 Nov 2015 12:10 p.m. PST

A debate as old as the hills of course but FOW does not 'lack' overwatch, it is folded into the overall outcome at a holistic level. More accurate to say 'FOW does not explicitly replicate bounding overwatch like more crunchy granular rules'…

I wont comment on you other technical errors, since I have not even read the rules, let alone played a few games through…but yes, I think I will enjoy!

Petrov09 Nov 2015 1:58 p.m. PST

Really? 15mm modern warfare?
I can understand doing it in 6mm.
But if you are going to have ground attack aircraft artillery and platoons? It gets REALLy silly in 15mm scale.

I can maybe see Force on Force with a vehicle or two per side with an infantry game, but platoons of tanks in 15mm?

Mako1109 Nov 2015 2:19 p.m. PST

"….but FOW does not 'lack' overwatch, it is folded into the overall outcome at a holistic level".

Excellent spin there, NFWS. ;-)

Probably a good thing that Battlefront decided to release its Cold War line based on the fiction found in Team Yankee. Otherwise it would not be much of a game, the reality of the fighting would not translate well into the typical table top game regardless of scale.

McWong7309 Nov 2015 8:38 p.m. PST

It's a rules engine and minis line. It's application to game either the fictional war in the book or one of your own preference (so more realistic, aligned to what we know etc) is up to the individual players.

The only valid criticism I could make prior to reading the rules is around lists that aren't comprehensive, however thats entirely due to the game being in launch phase. Over time I fully expect to see BTRs, Brads, T64 and 80 etc.

Navy Fower Wun Seven10 Nov 2015 12:06 p.m. PST

Well said McWong!
