I eagerly opened up a box of Warlord's Imperial Romans and was sorely disappointed at how small they were.

Are the newer Republican Romans as small, or are they more in scale with 28mm miniatures?

Most of the scale comparison pics I have googled make them look usable….

The newer Republicans are much larger- Foundry Caesarian size. I mix their nice metal casualty minis in with my Foundry. I don't entirely like the plumes and facial expressions on their plastics, though.

That's a big problem with Warlord Games, size inconstancy, even within ranges, I agree some figures could be smaller in a unit but not whole groups, I've just painted up some of their WW2 Italians and they are tiny compared to other nations(I had to put them on built up bases for the client), why's that? These Italians are even smaller than the Perry's Italians and they sculpt their WW2 to a slightly smaller scale than the rest of their ranges too.
Warlord's plastics are always way larger than their metals as well.
I sometimes feel they just want to get the product out first without the bother of getting it 100% right but they are prolific and that's their grace I suppose.
Still a little consistency would be nice.
Cheers just a small insight into actually a very good company.

Second question: I have a box of their German WW2 infantry and the heads are huge and out of proportion with the body, is the same true of the Caesarian Romans?

I have about 160 of the Warlord Republican Romans and I concur with BRB. Good figs overall. I think the heads are just fine in relation to the bodies. There's some (but not a ton/ tonne) of pose-ability with them, but then they're Romans and most are doing the same thing anyway. The command figures are limited – the only centurion helmet is Apulo-Corinthian. While I appreciate something different on centurions, I don't think they'd all have it. Luckily, it's really easy to convert one the of the helmets of the regular yelling and glue the transverse crest on – easy fix. There's also not a vexillum. To get a decent command group you need to buy the one that comes separately or some from other manufacturers. All those criticisms aside, I like the figures and look forward to the day I get to paint them.

Yes, a friend of mind was showing me his Imperial Romans from Warlord and I was surprised at how small they were.
