So my career prospects aren't great. I've been in and out of the slammer since I was 14. Juvie is most of what I remember from my teen years and since I turned 18, it is the real thing.
I'm a little over 30 now and I've probably been incarcerated for 60% of my adult life for a variety of petty crimes. I've never really managed to get into the big stuff and if I'm going to make a career out of this I'm certainly not getting any younger.
When this opportunity came up it seemed like something I should seriously consider.
On the up side, the employer is a big mover. He gain national attention on a regular basis. The man is a household name.
His robberies usually manage to come off and he has pulled some big heists over the years. The guy has seen his share of time behind bars too and he usually manages to escape.
On the downside, he does tend to draw a lot of local attention from the big boys, including Batman. He usually doesn't beat Batman.
Even when he does pull off a big heist it seems like a lot of the money either gets burned up or used to buy new toys for the next thing.
The other big downside is that most of the guys that have worked for the past have been beat unconscious by Batman, are dead or both.
Of course if I don't take the job he might kill me right here and now.

I was wondering why people would work for the Joker*. I guess the answer is in the last sentence. They might be afraid not to. It does seem like a losing proposition. You either get beat up by Batman or killed by your own boss.
* This could apply to A.I.M, Hydra, the League of Assassins or any other organization that fights supers heroes on a regular basis in either the DC or Marvel Universe. It seems like a lot of the crime bosses in Marvel though have henchmen that don't get their butts kicked too regularly or at least don't get killed by them. The Kingpin may kill the odd underling who disappoints him but that is true for the mob in the real world too. The Joker gets his whole gang killed almost every time it seems like.
