Do you have an interest or opinion on whether TMP introduces a new board that caters for discussions and reports on wargaming campaigns and battles based on the maps found in various commercial videogames?

I occasionally play video games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Medal of Honour not least because I marvel at the talent and creativity used to produce the virtual open world environments and I enjoy leaving the game story to just mooch around the cities and landscape. I love maps.

With GTA 5, I have noted a number of objectives that could be used as part of a wargame of conquest – army/airforce base, Bureau of Investigation, police stations, civic buildings, airport, port, oil wells, research institutes, etc. I am thinking of some hypothetical Chinese PLA helicopter and navy assault on a fictious wealthy USA island city (somewhere off the US West Coast). Players would produce their campaign plan and game it and when battle zones are decided upon the map and 3-D video world can be used to recreate a faithful representation of the video created battle area. Sounds too easy.

But I know nothing about Modern or Ultramodern warfare so if knowledgable TMPers contributed using these maps and plenty of insights and discussions to encourage others into these periods then I say it would be well worthwhile. I would love to know how on a map like GTA5 you would define your objectives, choose your armed forces, and how you would attack or defend.

What say you? Should TMP introduce a new board that promotes discussion on using and gaming campaigns and battles based on the maps created by videogames?

I do look to video games for scenario ideas and terrain ideas and model/miniature conversion ideas.

I do not know if we need a new board. I usually just use the appropriate board.

Why not, it just adds one more pointless extension to an otherwise overcrowded and overcomplex forum.

No, but I use Call of Duty 2, Close Combat, others for my WWII games. Quite useful. But no need for a board.

No interest.

More boards is the way to go.

OK. I have detected over the months a general weariness to suggestions for new boards on TMP so no surprise here.

I would love to know how on a map like GTA5 you would define your objectives, choose your armed forces, and how you would attack or defend

What is the way forward for me on this? Is it really to ask questions on the bear pit that is the Ultramodern board? LOL laugh

If you have only noticed a weariness to suggestions of new boards over the months, you have not been paying attention.

You and me both know …and yet hope springs eternal!

Not that I am aware of, hence my post. laugh
