Hello everyone!

I need help figuring out which Cold War vehicles never saw combat. After completing a bunch of interwar kits I realized that I really enjoy working on models of vehicles that were never battle tested. Unfortunately I am having a much harder time figuring out which Cold War era vehicles fall into this category.

So please if you know of any Cold War era vehicles that were designed, built, and never fired a shot in combat please share it here.

Thanks in advance!

MBT-70. Never went into production, but there was, IIRC, a test batch built and the tank was really cool looking and had lots of fancy features – so many that it was judged to be inoperable under real-world conditions.

That well known tank Stridsvagn 103 (Strv 103) S tank from Sweden

I don't think Chieftans ever fired a shot in anger.

IT-1 rocket tank.

Did the Kuwaiti and Saudi Chieftains involved in the liberation of Kuwait not engage the Iraqis?

Timbo W27 Oct 2015 2:52 a.m. PST

Iranian chieftains certainly fought versus Iraq, and quite a few we're lots to t62s etc iirc

Martin Rapier27 Oct 2015 4:09 a.m. PST

LOL, I was thinking of the British Army re Chieftans. You are quite right of course.

I'm trying to think if anyone took a Leopard I into battle, can't bring anything to mind- anyone?

aAndoreth, don't think the Saudis had chieftains in gw1 but the kuwaitis did and some Vickers MBts as well.

Apologies for phone typing!

I don't believe the T-64 every saw combat. What about the US M59 and M75 APCs?

bishnak27 Oct 2015 5:34 a.m. PST

I believe T-64BM is in action in Ukraine?

Canadian ones saw action in Afghanistan, and the Belgians deployed them to both Kosovo and Afghanistan.

Sgt York

Martin Rapier27 Oct 2015 7:24 a.m. PST

I thought the Sgt York _believed_ it was engaging hostile targets. Even if it was actually firing at rotating ventilation fans, or the audience during its field trials:)

I don't imagine any of the Japanese designed and built tanks have seen a lot of action. Types 61, 75 and 90.

Did the Belgians have a Cockerill upgunned Walker Bulldog?

John

PS And Jagdpanzer (rocket or gun) from West Germany

M114.

M8 Armored Gun System.

Sadly, the entire XM1200 series of vehicles from the Future Combat System program. 20 ton MBTs, IFVs, SPA-G and SPA-M, ARVs, you name it.

EFV.

Charlie 1227 Oct 2015 7:19 p.m. PST

The "Future Combat System"? THAT farce? Over blown, under armored and in no way an advance over the current vehicles. And a 20 ton, 2 man, 120mm armed MBT? Can you say 'death trap'? Good riddance…

Didn't the Japanese tanks fight a number of Kaiju over the years?

Cosmic Reset28 Oct 2015 10:05 a.m. PST

M114 was in Vietnam briefly.

kmahony11128 Oct 2015 11:07 p.m. PST

Weren't Marders used in Afghanistan? And possibly Wiesels too?

Oninotaki31 Oct 2015 11:22 a.m. PST

Thanks for all the help guys! It seems like my safest bet will be to focus on older Cold War Japanese models as their records seem the most clear. That being said does anyone know if there are any 1/48 scale models of German weasels?
