"Israel's Tank Production Authority is producing its first prototype of Eitan, an eight-wheel-drive armored fighting vehicle designed to weigh nearly half as much as the new Namer heavy carriers.

The locally developed Eitan — Hebrew for steadfast — will be deployed alongside new Namers and will replace old M113s that still support the bulk of Israeli infantry.

Sources here said it will weigh no more than 35 tons and will incorporate a new generation of active protection, an advanced turret and a full complement of munitions and sensors…"

M113s? Wow, I did not realize Israel was still using the old Rolling Coffin.

The Israelis are still using T55s they captured in '67, they're almost as bad as the Russians for never throwing things away!

A 35-ton wheeled vehicle is *twice* the weight of a Stryker.

Yes, the sooner they get rid of the M113 the better … I think this new APC is a great idea. Certainly will improve survivability of the crew and passengers.

A 35-ton wheeled vehicle is *twice* the weight of a Stryker.

Part of the reason behind the Stryker's weight is to make it more air-portable than the Bradley.

The Israelis don't have that need.

Exactly … and because of the lower weight, things like the Turkey Cage had to be installed to increase survivability … Just like more armor had to be added on the M2/M3 IFV. And of course the M1 TUSK modification …
