A man piddling against the tabernum wall does not a "fountain" make. Every part of my experience there was awful, from the guesthouse to the lack of available food in the mid-afternoon (when all other cities' pubs were opening back up – we'd traveled from London and around the South before heading North, so were used to food availability). We finally found a fish and chips shop that was closing up whose food was…less than good. Advertising "deep fried haggis on a stick" (yes, literally) did not fill me with confidence. (I ordered the fish & chips and was underwhelmed). We didn't bother to stick around to sample the Reivers museum, but headed on up into Scotland at first light. |
