'As I have said before on other posts … IMO, The USA made two very large strategic errors in recent times. Of course hindsight is 20/20 …' Yes, absolutely. Hindsight is. Though frankly even at the time decisions such as appointing a man who had no background in the Middle East at all and spoke no Arabic as head honcho seemed … um .. counter to common sense. His subsequent decision to disband rather than recall the army (which was contrary to the initial plan) was widely questioned at the time. An that's just two examples of far too many missteps to list. Winning the war was done quickly and by professionals. The attempt to win the peace seems to have been tackled amateurishly and entirely on the basis of wishful thinking mixed with ideological assumptions. |

Perhaps peace was never part of the plan? Perhaps strategic flux and expensive occupation was a considered outcome? If you win the war and the peace quickly, where is the room for profiteering and military spending? Rod Robertson. |

counter to common sense. With "Realpolitik" … that sometimes seems to be the norm. Sometimes it works out … sometimes not so much … Winning the war was done quickly and by professionals.

Maybe … but we'd hope that was not the case. There is a number of old Ferengi sayings from Star Trek … "War is good for business." "War is bad for business." "Know your enemies … but do business with them anyway." "Even in the worst of times someone turns a profit." FWIW … |

What happened in Iraq was that we needed to roll a 5+ but we used those blue dice that always roll bad, and we got a 4. Yeah, this coming from the sick B@$7@^& who made a game that makes me look for just 6s and 1s. I NEVER roll 6s or 1s… |

I'm not surprised he didn't … for a number of reasons … but the day is young … But as I said, we were real soldiers. Not something someone read about in a book or novel. Or see in movies or TV shows, comic books etc. … |
