Link to my blog below! A small skirmish with Black Powder rules. I was excited to use my Prussians for the first time, but sadly things didn't go as planned.

Enjoy, and thanks for looking!

Thanks for that. I'm reading BP at the moment with a view to using them when my Peninsular collection gets under way – I'm due to start painting on Jan 1 2016.

I wonder if you, or someone else, can enlighten me as to how many skirmishers I'll actually need in practice. I mean, what proportion of units throw out skirmishers (mixed formation) in a typical PB game.

I've already bought thirty seven 24 man battalions of infantry and was working on having 4 skirmish figures per battalion (140+ skirmish figures). I was thinking 6 per battalion would look better but, that's another 70 figures and, at £1.20 GBP a figure (28mm), I'd rather spend the money on other things.

Please advise.

4 is plenty, always found them pretty symbolic in BP terms anyway.

I only use a stand with two figures to represent skirmishers. Looks fine on the table with lots of battalions.

Thanks for looking James!

I agree with the above. My French (pictured in game) throw out Skirmishers mostly when in attack column, but otherwise none of the other nations we play typically do. 2-4 Skirmishers per base should do. I'm currently in the process of adding Jagers to the Prussians, and they will have 2 bases per battalion of 2 men on each. When you have many battalions on the field it'll look good. That was a small game by our standards.
