I'm looking for a good color for tank tracks to paint, in 6MM an also 1/72 scale. I have used several methods but not real happy with my choices so far.

I mean I like the dirty look muddy if you will since tanks are in the field.

Also was tracks different colors from different countries ie.. Russian vs USA?

I think any tracks will quickly look like either dirt or mud in short order, regardless of what color they originally were. I've seen some evidence that German tracks FREX were delivered in a dark grey primer (same as the gun barrels), but this would very quickly wear away to either bare metal or dirt with only a short amount of use. Personally, for either scale models or wargaming models, I paint tracks whatever dirt color they are operating in, and highlight with a bit of steel to show wear and where the dirt has fallen off, etc.

Damon.

I paint mine rust brown with dirt and mud on top.

I like Vallejo #822 German Camo Black Brown followed by a lighter drybrush of tan.

For American tanks, I paint black with rust on the edges where the pins protrude. For tanks with steel tracks, I start with black then follow with a heavy steel dry brush and then a rust red wash. Finally, I weather the crap out of them, usually with a heavy damp brush of unbleached titanium since I'm mostly painting desert vehicles.

Go with a deep chocolate brown. Drybrush a gunmetal color sparingly over that. I mix my own gunmetal from silver, dark burnt umber, and tangerine.

I used to do rust brown, but now I just do mud brown (the same mud brown I apply heavily all over the running gear) over a black base, dark brown inkwash then highlight with a gunmetal colour.
