I know documentaries are not always accurate.
I was watching a show about second bull run and there was a unit that looked like ragged Rebs. With the one exception of all in red shirts. At first I thought LA Tigers but I believe they were long gone by second bull run. Does anyone know of an all red shirt unit?

I have decided to paint them and was wondering if there is any true historic connection or if I should just use them generically.

At 1st Bull Run many of the 11th New York (1st Fire Zouaves) stripped off their jackets and fought in their red fireman shirts due to the extreme heat.

Perhaps the Confederates had stripped down to their long, red, underwear?

I don't know why, but I'm thinking that the 1st Minnesota was known for wearing red shirts in combat. I may be misremembering something however.

William Warner is correct.
There's a Troiani painting showing them in their red shirts. Check his website.

The 11th New York wore some red shirts but also some white ones and you can see pictures of them as prisoners after 1st Bull Run. But they also would have been wearing a combination of red and blue trimmed kepis, fezs and some with havelocks over their kepis.

They did, but that's also a 1st Manassas thing. They changed to regulation uniforms after that.

When looking into zouave uniform some time ago i found a confederate unit of zouaves whose only piece of uniform was their red shirts. These had large white stripes on them but not all in the same place. The stripe could be anywhere that had a seam, including around the pockets. This would suggest that the shirts were owned by the men wearing them and their flash look makes them likely to be something used for sunday best. There was a description of them as they were being formed so the flashy shirt zouaves might only have lasted until an issue of uniforms.
