I have a pile of Rebel Miniatures' pirates for skirmish gaming, and am looking at some other companies to spice my collection up – Grumpy for Asian pirates and Blue Moon for some more captains and civilians as part of another order with Old Glory.

From reading around, Grumpy's are probably going to be a bit smaller than Rebel's, but does anyone know if they'll be weirdly smaller or just short a bit (which I can handwave away)?

Will Blue Moon's "18mm" be too big? I have some Museum Miniatures pirates and they seem ok beside the Rebel pirates; I know Museum next to some other 15mm makers though can look huge, so I'm thinking BM and Rebel might be ok.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I am interested, but backwards, I have lots of BM and am looking at adding a few Rebel.

Grumpy and Museum will fit together fine (I used to manufacture Museum), I cannot say anything for Rebel or Blue Moon as I have never seen either in the 'flesh'

I don't have either of those brands mentioned but you might be able to figure out with this:

Thanks Flashman – I was encouraged with the first few pictures but the Blue Moon figures seemed to get bigger as I went down.

I measured my Rebel and Museum guys last night, the Rebel figures with hats were generally 19-19.5mm from bottom of base to top of hat, about 18-18.5mm from bottom of foot to top of hat (so the base was about 1mm thick), and 15.5-16.5mm from bottom of foot to eye.

Guys without hats were 1-1.5mm shorter to the top of the head, still about 15.5-16mm from foot to eye.

Museum pirates were essentially the same, maybe a bit less chunky but only if you really looked.

@Badger – could you get some BM pirate measurements to compare with? Right now I'm thinking they wouldn't work, but maybe there's some variation with ranges.

Grumpy vs. Rebel sounds good though, using Museum as the middle of the equation.

Let me stir around and find some sort of metric measuring device.

One thing to consider, all Blue moon are not the same height. Pirate captain is about 21mm to top of hat. Pirate crew, no hat 18mm to top of head. And women figures about 17mm to top of head. BM always does this, the individual variation in their 28mm figures can be a lot. Just like normal people. Sounds like Rebel are going to be just a bit short. fine by me, I am not tall myself.

Height does not bother me nearly as much as equipment. two guys withe same rifle that is vastly different has always bothered me.

I shall have to get a pack or two of Rebel just to see now. how terrible more minis to buy!

Thanks Owen. I may take a shot at a pack to see how they go when I place an order for another project. Were those measurements including the base or from the foot?

Blue Moon and Rebel work well together. From my blog: link

Peter Pig and Grumpy are somewhat smaller, but of a size with each other.

Can't speak to the Museum figures.

Thanks Tamsin, great looking stuff. Guess my BM order may be bigger!

here you measured from the base so did I, else it would not be as much use. I have been a BM fan since shortly after they started. If you plan on doing a lot, get the Old Glory army card. 40% off is a wonderful thing.

Bm are excellent figures, I do have both. My rationale in mixing are some humans are smaller then others. Yes the BM are bigger but I feel they mix well due to human variation.
